Since I got my 80 early last year, I've been fixing little things as quickly as I can with 3 young kids and an ER Murse schedule. Previous owner(s) have done a little bit of hack-job wiring here and there, so I'm cleaning that up as I can as well.

My XRC10 doesn't power on, and I don't have an isolator that I can find. Winch controller is brand new (bought by me), winch will spool out when the switch is in free mode.

I'm competent enough electrically to test circuits and replace wiring, relays, etc.; but a wiring diagram is still a bit Greek to me.

I've tried testing current at a couple points, but no real luck finding any problem. I think my next step is jumping into the switch box and testing there.

Initial thoughts? I'll post pics/updates as I figure this thing out. Thanks in advance.

First things first. I presume the power cable is hooked to a battery and that the circuit is properly grounded? I recall that the ground cable needs to be grounded to the bumper itself.

I'm definitely in the "keep it simple first" camp. I'll check that ground. Thanks.

Been a year, finally got around to testing things...

Opened up the solenoid box, looks like it might have gotten wet at some point.

Sprayed it down with electrical cleaner and let it dry out. Measured 14.xV at the contact point for the solenoid box, and same at the connector prongs for the remote switch itself.

After this minor cleansing, the unit will power on while spooling out, but still nothing happens when I try to spool back in. I didn't fully open up the second smaller box and clean it out. I guess that's next...

Bad solenoid. There should be two for "in" and two for "out".

Good to know. I think I might be missing a piece of wire at the connector for the remote. Relay has 4 prongs but only 3 wires connected. Makes sense now.
