Pondering how to mount my Smartphone in my LX470, and thought I would ask
how do you mount your phone. I use my Android phone (OnePlus One) as a GPS
and as a display for my OBD2 interface.

Pro Clip USA makes mounts and holders for almost every kind of phone.

Scosche makes some nice universal magnetic mounts that I like very much. The one I have is called MagicMount.

I have a ProClip in my GTI and love it. Their options/placement for the 100 are just not what I'm looking for. I've gone with the $20 universal suction cup mount

The pro clip is perfect placement for the '03+ rigs, kinda sucks for the earlier ones. I have pro clip on my '04, and a suction cup on top of the dash on my '00. I use a round base plate for the suction cup. Ugly, but functional, especially for daily roads voyager/dash cam usage.

I like the Proclip for a phone on the driver's side as @crimsonaudio pictured but I'm looking for a spot for a mini ipad. Anyone running that on the passenger Proclip mount?

Ram Mount X-grip adhered to the to top the dash. I'm normally very against any kind of adhesive on car interiors, but I figure it just the right way to do it in the cruiser. I use a sunshade all the time (thanks AZ sun) so having anything on the windshield gets old real fast.

Bought a Magic Mount yesterday at a boat store, love it. Hardly noticeable when not in use

How about for off-road (no slip), with miles and miles of heavy washboard? Still the Ram X-Grip? It looks like the phone would drop out.

The x-grip is awesome off road. I used one in my Jeep on a lot of off roading trips including wheeling runs in Moab and never had any shifting or loss of position of my phone. The rubber grippers are super "sticky" and there is enough tension on the arms that the phone just doesn't move. I'd use it without a second thought even on a tablet if I had the need.

In my LX I bought a scosche magic mount (magnet) and stuck it between the 4wd shifter and my heated seat buttons. I like it well enough but its a non starter if you don't have a removable back on your phone or if you don't use a case.

The X-grip makes me think it might be a PITA to attach and remove the phone.

How about those smartphone mounts that attach to the AC vents?

I use a Life Proof case and their mount which wasn't cheap, but man it is rock solid, water proof, and easy to adjust and lock in place. I am never going to another mount... and I am a RAM Mount nut as well.

Its actually really simple and takes no time at all. One of the arms (diagonal) is spring loaded so you just squeeze the one side and position your phone where you want it and leg go.

Yup, your probably correct. I've bounced around a bit in the sand today and was fine. The hard hits could cause it come loose. But I did order 2 more today
