Researched on net and conclusion seemed to be the smart keys purportedly can't be reprogramed to a new truck. This makes the eBay ones useless.

I lost a key and went to have another programmed today. Dealer says they need my one I have left to program the new one and that if I find the old one it wont work anymore.

All of that would seem to say that there was some reprogramming of something to make the new and old work on my truck and also disabling the old one.

So I guess I am wondering can they really be programmed to a new vehicle and are the dealers full of it or not.

Google Toyota smart keys and you will see the prior discussions. They sell em on eBay used for one half of a new one at dealer so if they can be switched to new trucks it would be a big deal.

PS my wife's LX has a smart key shaped like a credit card. Wish the LC had one just to keep in wallet. But back to the programming question?

I lost a key and had to purchase a replacement. Yes, the dealer needed my one remaining key fob to program the new smart key, but it all worked.

Not sure how much this will help you there in the US - but I can tell you what I have to deal with here in the Middle East.

Normally if you need a replacement key the dealership has to order it from Toyota and it will be locked to your VIN. Once they get this from Japan, they then have to pair it to the car. Put it on the cluster to pair with the ignition and then place it under the passenger seat to pair with the lock system.

(now there are "unlocked" keys that are not locked to a VIN number) You still need to use a computer which I'm not a 100% sure you can find in the US other then at the dealership.

Thanks to both but neither really answers the question of whether an eBay used fob can be programmed by the dealer to your LC 200. The programming is only $50.00. It the key that gets you.

Well in the first post I didnt see where you said the eBay key was used. Some of the FOBs on eBay are the Chinese copies which are not locked to a VIN. So could be programmed by the dealer.

I actually just looked on eBay and didnt see any TLC200 Key FOBS so cant help you there.

I found my old key. It still works despite the dealer telling me it wouldn't work. Now I got 3.
