my nose cone on my 465 doesn't fit over into the bell housing anyone run into this before. It's about a tenth of an inch to large.
Do I turn the nose cone down. or find one that fits.

and my gear is binding some where when I tighten it up tree root's write up metioned putting a washer inside the tc gear on the tranny out put shaft to hold the washer away from the gear.

What I am concered about is where is it binding the bering in the tranny or the front of the case.

I know I am not the only one to run into this. But I would rather ask a stupid question than make a stupid mistake.

it seems as the washer would allow the gear to float on the shaft a little os that going to effect any thing down the road.

You have to turn down the front bearing retainer, and run Allen head bolts. Or, if you have $$, AA makes a beautiful new front bearing retainer that is the right size and the outside diameter is correct for the Cruiser throw out bearing.

Regarding the binding, I don't know. What adapter plate are you using?

You read this excellent link, I hope: 2F SM465/Orion Install

Take the flywheel housing and input bearing retainer to a machine shop and have them bore the opening in the flywheel housing to fit the input bearing retainer...so you do not have to run special bolts to make everything "just clear"...

If you did not install the washer in front of the transfer case input gear as described in the many write ups out here, the gear will bind..

Being an AA dealer, I would not even suggest that component.

The pieces that I have purchased from them in the past, the bolt holes did not line up with the transmission.

I did this conversion not long ago. Although I didn't have to deal with the washer issue (I used an NP203 doubler vs bolting the tranny directly to the LC t-case) I did find the input bearing retainer too large. Since I left the engine in the vehicle, taking the bellhousing into a machine shop wasn't an option for me (good idea though, wish I could have done that.)

I turned down the input bearing retainer slightly, and used allen head bolts as recommended in treeroots write-up. Came together fine. I do have a slight oil leak from my input bearing retainer, but I suspect that's because I put in a used tranny, and not related to the mod to the retainer itself.

does any one make a two stick setup to fit this applacation pre fabed. or is that something i will have to fab myself.

Poser,

I am having a heck of a time finding a picture or a size of this input gear washer can you point me in the right direction.:bang:

X2 on having them bore the bellhousing to fit the input bearing retainer, also what adapter are you using ? a Plate ? It just looks funny seing the output shaft from the 465 that far into the transfer case mine does not even come close to the rear tansfer case bearing has to drill and tap it then just run the drive gear inside without the gear that would run the PTO

Can you enlighten me on what you had to do to get the SM465 to bolt up to the 203 doubler? Most SM465s had a large spline output (10 spline?) and the 203 I've got has a 27 spline input (going by memory, haven't looked at it recently). I have two SM465s out of 2 wheel drive rigs.

Here is what I know. The 10 spline output version of the SM465 is what you need. The 35 and 32 spline version will not work. The SM465s out of 2 wheel drives will have 35 spline outputs. You need a 4wd SM465 with the short 10 spline output. later 4wd 465s had 32 spline outputs. Since you will likely rebuild your SM465 anyway, you can swap in whatever output shaft you like.

NP203s came with 10 spline, 27 spline 30 spline and 32 spline inputs.

There is a factory cast steel adapter for the SM465/NP203. It's hard to find as it was only used 2 years 74-75 in Blazer applications. They are uncommon but they do exist. I have one! 74 is the key year.

You can get a new input gear for the 203. Most 203s came behind TH350s which had a 27 spline output. The input gear is available from here:
NorthWest FabWorks - Products - Transfer Case Input Gears

So with the factory adapter and the input gear you are set with the 465 to 203 doubler box, then the adapter to Land Cruiser is available from Jerry Nichols. If you are using a 1 piece Land Cruiser case, Lil'John has one for sale at a good price in the classifieds.

My SM465 came out of an early Blazer and was still attached to the NP203. It's kind of rare and I was able to make all my money back by ebaying the adapter.

It's pretty long. I'm suprised a SM465/203 doubler will fit in a 40.

Here's poser response when I asked him the same question.
070-25 is the SOR part number for the 90201-35070

I have a 3/4" Woody adapter and this washer aligned the output gear perfectly.

I think I have a couple of extras. If you want one, send me a PM and I will drop it in an envelop and send it to you. They are not expensive but SOR has a steep min delivery charge.

ok i work at a john deere dealer ship an found a set of washers (shims) for a round baler that gave me the ability to get my gear alignment just right. so if anyone runs into this that has a john deere dealer close the part # is 24h1534 this one will go next to the tranny nut takes 2 to get to the taper 24h1513 is the same size a the shaft i used 1 just to keep them centered
