Will the bearing retainer (I am assuming that is the round thing that bolts to the tranny and allows the throwout bearing to slide back and forth)
from an SM420 work on an SM465 when mating it to a 3speed bellhousing for connection to the 2F?

I know that the stock SM465 one is to big in diameter for the 3speed bell housing. However I also noticed that the retainer is a bit short on the SM420 compared to the stock 4Speed. (Stubby).

Before I buy the retainer - though I'd check to see if the 420's would work on the 465....

thnx

Just have the center of the flywheel housing opend up....not that big of a deal..

Or turn down the 465 bearing retainer by about 1/8 inch and grind the heads of the retaining bolts after they are tight. Even less big of a deal.

I had the bearing retainer turned down on the 465 and I extended the collar. The bit of tubing is soldered on and then I hit it with a punch just in case. I don't have the skills to weld to cast. For no particular reason, I sanded it down with a scotch-brite pad and polished it with wenol. I felt guilty using a piece of exhaust pipe I guess. :D

 The PO of my rig did the exhaust pipe deal on my SM420 to stock F motor, worked great and never had any problems. SM420 first gear is worth it....
