Im thinking about rebuilding the sm420 in my new cruiser, how hard is it? and also where is a good place to get parts. I was looking at novak's master rebuild kits...anyone have some experiance with them?

The SM420 is one of the easier transmissions to rebuild as long as you pay attention when you take it apart. Naturally, there is an article about this on ih8mud.com tech links.

All parts are available as either new or new old stock. You can do a lot better on the rebuild kits than Novak. Try Stick Only Transmissions in Sun Valley CA or Tourist Auto in Salt Lake City.
