Slow roll transmission issue?

Agreed that claiming that all dealer service departments are bad is painting a pretty broad stroke. I haven't had anything of substance done at my local dealer on the LC yet, but my initial impression has been pretty positive. The point that a dealer is much more likely to resolve an expensive screw up than a small independent shop is a good one, I think. When you have a great independent shop near you, they're a phenomenal resource to have, but many of us don't have that luxury.

Another mod (other than tires) I've been thinking of making is to add sliders and Budbuilt looks like the option I'd like to go with. But the install appears to be more involved than I really want to get into on my own (I'm sure I can do it, but not sure I ~WANT~ to do it). I'm not sure that I have a local shop available that I would trust to do it properly - I was very impressed watching their installation video where they paid attention to things like torque settings. What I might do is wait until travel is more of an option and work a visit to Budbuild to have the sliders installed by them into a vacation down that way.

Other than the local Land Rover dealer, who was probably completely overwhelmed with probably every vehicle they sold coming in for all sorts of issues that originated at the factory, I've had pretty good luck, overall, with the dealers I've dealt with over the years.

Budbuilt sliders are easy to install. I put them on my 2015 200 and a Tacoma. Another set that will go on the 2021 is en route to me. I am local to you and will be help to lend a hand once/if Covid ends...

Fwiw. I ended up stopping by the local dealer this morning because I saw them listed on another thread ( cruiser mechanics - by state) so figured I would at least hear what they said. Didn’t even have to finish explaining the issue before the service manger said it’s totally normal and that hopefully by my 5k service there will be a bulletin out with a software update. Still not really thrilled that I have to deal with it, but whatever. Might not be an issue for most people but mine does it anytime the truck is between 7-11 miles per hour. So basically anytime you take a turn or going over speed bumps and there are 1/2 dozen of them around the community. I used ECT 2 for a short drive today and the issue seems to go away totally. I just not how practical it is to drive around with that on all the time.

I have a 2021 LC200 build in Oct 2020, delivered in Dec and with about 3900 miles. I am going to try to reproduce the situation you mention and see what it does.

What I have noticed is that the 3ur-fe and 8 speed aisan combination:
- changes gear for no obvious reason at higher speeds when moving the throttle even in smaller amounts
- when slowing down with cruise control or going down a bridge at constant speed it changes up gear more enthusiastic and for longer than it really seems to need (just reducing throttle would do so it seems)
- with ECT power on it appears to behave better all together, including at lower speeds and lower speed shifts

I would therefore suggest to try ECT power mode and see how you like it.

I expect fuel economy with or without ECT pwr to be very similar. I believe that is more a function of how heavy a right foot you have and how smooth you transition through traffic and not something to worry about in an LC as it is not good in any case.

So today I drove the cruiser (not using it every day as I am working from home for now) and watched going through various corners. I did not notice any issues with down shifting. Note that I am in ECT power mode and in general like that including what seems a quicker response to the accelerator. So for those experiencing this issue, try ECT power and see whether the experience is better.

This is what it is. Annoying AF. I have a ‘16. Been doing it all along. Hard shift resolved by TSB. But the search for the right gear below 15 MPH, over speed bumps etc is the nature of the beast unfortunately.

For those looking to “fix” it I wouldn’t waste your time. (But if you do find a
solution please PM me ASAP!). I’ve even considered selling because my OCD gets the best of me.

Bigger tires no change.

Pedal Commander- I like the throttle response but no change in shifting.

ECT Button- no better.

2nd start- maybe a slight change but not enough to claim significant improvement.

Get bigger tires because you want bigger tires. Get a Pedal Commander because you want a quick throttle response. Use ECT to shift at higher RPMS. Use 2nd start to not slip in the snow.

And take your truck to whatever dealer/private mechanic that works for you!
