Here is the background.
I have a sweet Swiss trailer (similar size to an M416, just a bit smaller) that I was going to put a lid on to mount my RTT and use as a base camp when I'm wheeling. I often change camp spots every night and in that situation I don't mind closing up my RTT every morning but when I come back to the same spot for 4 nights in a row (like at a wheeling event) it begins to become a pain.

Here is the question.
This trailer has slipper springs. A buddy really thinks it is going to be too bumpy of a ride to make this into an expo-style trailer. He suggested that I sell it and get a M416 or preferably a CAN M 101 (flat top rails). Also, the Swiss trailer has the original soft top bows with wood and a nice cover (not sure if the cover is original). I kinda hate to weld on this trailer as it is a pretty nice piece as it is in original form.

What say MUD?

Our friend Ali has a Kamparoo trailer with slipper springs. Fully loaded I think he's right at 1500lbs rolling weight and those slipper springs he has are just plain impressive! I wouldn't have believed they would perform so well especially without shocks!

To be honest I had a hard time keeping up with him on one of our Death Valley trips and I was pulling an AT Horizon with indy suspension with shocks!

I'm not sure slipper springs would be that big a problem, any suspension will get bouncy off road if you don't have shocks.

Another option that might be cheaper than finding and building up a Mil surplus trailer

Thanks - but considering I'll be doing most of the work it will be cheaper to build - that and I need a new project.

Awesome - this is what I'm looking for. Maybe I can just add a pair of shocks to help out...

Thanks but my basic build is going to consist of a top and maybe a pair of shocks, at most going from slipper springs to shackles. The lid will only be a few hundred in parts, and maybe that again for other parts. The rest will be my time and maybe some help from a friend.

If the slipper springs are going to be a deal breaker (along with the smaller capacity of the Swiss trailer vs a M416 or similar) then I'll sell the Swiss trailer and buy an M416 for a base and mod it from there with my parts and time.
