True, I don't think they are quite as stout as some other offerings, but I have seen these sliders take some SERIOUS abuse on minitrucks. Even though the minitrucks are lighter, I have seen some take some very hard blows directly on the sliders and not flinch. I believe with the proper gussets they will work just fine for everything except extreme hardcore wheeling in a very heavy 80. But that's not what I do with my 80.;)

I think if you go with any one of the major players in the slider market for 80's you can't go wrong. The MT's have a great and different design as Tare mentioned and the Hannas are a "traditional" style and very well made. I have the Hannas, love them and have abused them mercillecly with no ill effect except scratches but I would trust that the Slees, Metal Techs, Hannas etc would work very well.

If you want to see some Hannas on JAFW80 I am close by. ;)

Thanks, Mo. I've had the opportunity to see the Hanna's up close. They are pretty stout! One thing I haven't checked out is how well they function as a step to provide access to the roof rack. I don't really want or need a true "slider step" like Slee offers, though.

MT's are the shizznet.
nicely powder coated too.

had them on in about an hour.
Chicks dig 'em.

mass protection for your cat$ too.

Thanks for the feedback, Pablo. It seems no one in my neck of the woods is running MT's, so I haven't really been able to check them out "up close & personal". I work in downtown LA, but sometimes get to the SFV. Are you ever in that area so I could maybe take a look at yours?

Take care,
JR

I haven't added anything before this because almost everyone is saying the same thing I would, "I love my Hanna sliders".

As far as a step they are pretty good. You could definately improve the safety with a little non skid tape across the top bar though. I stand on mine all the time with wet, bare feet while washing the roof and have never slipped but I know that when I do it will be my own damn fault:crybaby:. I also ignore them getting in and out because I'm tall but my friends use them all the time as steps (to the point that the pass side is more scratched up than the driver side:rolleyes:)

I also use them as steps without any issues. Steve has a great idea using the grip tape but I tried that once on my 4Runner and I was scraping the heck out of my leg constantly so I took it off. I am also too dumb to get used to them and change the way I ingress and egress to avoid that issue. :hillbilly: I have also accepted the fact that I might slip sometime but have not had any close calls. Yet.

Not sure if it will be an issue on your end but I have heard a fellow mud member (don't remember who) whose wife complained because she was constantly snagging her panty hose and ruining them. FWIW

When I ordered my sliders from Ken last October he gave me the option of putting a new 3M grip tape on the sliders for IIRC $15.

I am very happy with the tape he put on since it is more like a bed liner material than sand paper. My :princess: has had no issues using it as a step or catching nylons.

I actually like the slider as a step better than the running boards since it is a little higher and I have better acces to the roof.

Yeah, I guess I failed to specify. That is the exact tape I was referring to. We use it at work. I can see that if you used some 1970's skateboard grip tape it would cause some grief:D

I hadn't heard of that tape before. Sounds like a much better option.
