Has there been a discusion as to the relative merits of either welding or u bolting sliders on a 60? That's kinda on the future list and I don't recall seeing any thing definitive. What's the general opinions? :meh:

I would think that welding them to the frame would be better than a U-Bolt setup. Then again you can bolt through the frame with a backing plate if you feel industrious! Just make sure you have a solid frame!

I welded mine...
However, Im kinda wishing that Id have taken the steps to bolt directly to the frame. Not U bolts, but bolts into the frame.
Its just be nice to be able to remove them if needed and not have to hack em off.
They took a NASTY hit on the Rubicon last fall where the DS slider slammed onto a nice big boulder where I thought for sure Id have busted a weld or 2....They held up AWESOME. I was very pleased.

i bolted mine with pates on back side of the frame. I had them made by solid rock off road. They are awsome

search its been covered before

Yah and you search and get two pages of threads with guys saying "search". How about add some info and say search at the end... or add some good wording to search with in?

If you weld I would try to stay away from vertical welds on the frame. I think it opens the frame up to a possible crack. As welds can crack now the frame is weakened due to a hardness change vertically. A horizontal weld won't cause that issue. A circular weld will be ok too. But the bottom half of the weld won't be easy to do. I'm no good welding inverted.

X2!! You will see no lack of strength with properly bolted on and then they can easily be removed if necessary. Also, I can stand on these (225#) and bounce and they don't go anywhere.

I welded mine on and every set i have made for anyone i welded them too. I did do the diamond looking backing plate welded to the frame because i did not want a straight up and down weld on the frame, but other than that, weld it. cheers

I welded mine because I didnt want to deal with moving gas lines, arb line, etc to bolt them in. I also used gussets from the slider to the frame.

x2 about moving the lines on passenger side frame rail. i welded mine as well. used 4 inch by 4inch by 1/4 plate turned on a diamond to prevent verticle welds and welded my slider mounting plates to the diamonds.

WHY DON'T EVERYONE THAT POSTED PUT A PIC OF THEIR SLIDERS on here?

I want to replace the rocker panel (rusted out) and custom fit a slider/rocker panel

anyone ever do this?

Weld some scab plates to the frame then weld the slider legs to the scab plates. The only time I would ever want to pull them is when they are severely damaged and need to be replaced. Then you just cut them off from the scab plates, grind the plates flat and weld the new set back in place.

I have the bolt on version from SROR and I can tell you that they will hold up. I did my best to make as much gravel as I could out of the rocks at the LSLC Round up this weekend and the bumper and sliders( both bolt on) were abused and came out on top with no movement of any kind. A few new beauty marks but that has nothing to do with how they are attached. I can take them off if i need to repaint someday and I love them

Got a set also, and they do hold up nicely. I think the bolt-on's can take plenty of abuse, but if you're making your own it would be a lot easier to make welded ones.

If you don't need the 2 x 4 slider, the tube sliders from Marlin seem to work fine.

Yeah, I got the marlins too.
For the pirce, they cant be beat. There are some mods that need to be made to the sliders in order for them to work, but its nothing too challenging.
Mine have been abused and theyve held up nice so far!
