How many skidplates came stock on fj60's? Is the tranny/transfer case skid plate the only one or was there one for the oil pan as well?

My FJ-60 has one skid plate at the front under the radiator, and one L-shaped plate that covers the transmission and transfer case. I suppose I have the other two smaller plates shown too.

oil pan should have an integrated skid plate if it's still OEM. rad should have a stand alone plate as well as the t-case/tranny. gas tank relys on spare tire for protection.

Thanks for the help. My 60 is missing all of the skid plates. And apparently my oil pan is not stock. Does anyone have the front radiator skid plate that they would be willing to part with? I found a good used tranny/tc skid plate but have been unable to find the front plate.

If you can't find a used one, the front skid plate appears to be available new from the dealer (51441-60061). 1st toyota parts show's a price of $71.90. I've never bought from these guys; their prices are always lower than my local dealer. You might also check with cdan on his price.

Sorry for the hijak but have any of you heard of a carbon skidplate that extends for the length of the truck? One of my buds told me that they are easy to make custom, that they are virtually indestructible and relatively inexpensive, like sub $200.

Just curious

when did the 60 skidplate change? my '83 cruiser has a huge plate under the tranny, the 88 has a skimpier plate

Stronger even than steel? And could it take the gouging and impacts of sharp rocks?

From what I've heard, yeah. I haven't had time to do any research but I wanted to know if you guys had heard of it. It's new to me as well.

If you are talking about carbon fiber then I doubt it will be that cheap. that stuff is hella $$ and not just anyone can form it. It is very strong as they use it in race car stuff but I don't think it would work in a skid.

Sandcruiser: My parts microfiche shows that the US FJ-60 (WGG) got different skid plates from canada (WGV) and from the BJ- and HJ- models. The HJ is similar to that shown below for the BJ.

I agree with the comments on the carbon fiber. Although it is very stiff and light, I don't think it would hold up well to abrasion. I recently cut down a carbon fiber seat post for a bicycle and my hack saw went through it much easier than any metal.

Not carbon fiber, but carbon graphite. I apologise for not specifying. Like I said, I don't know much about this, but my bud said that a 1/2 inch thick sheet of carbon graphite spread across the bottom with ample support would be the best skid.
