Does anyone know what size bolt is used to hold the transfer case skid plate to the frame of a 79 FJ40? asked SOR but they couldn't tell me. I could buy them from sor but the shipping costs more than the bolts. Would like to get the same bolt locally.

Bought 8m x1/25 bolts at Home Depot and they are too big. My rig hasn't had a skid plate on it for quite some time (don't know how long) and there is a fair amount of rust built up. Also looks like one bolt has sheered off and part of it is still in there. I'll try and back it out and if successful I should be able to tell from it what size I need.

Well, when the truck left Japan and floated to the USA those bolts were 8x1.25x 25 or 30mm long.

I would purchase a quality tap and see if you can avoid snapping a tap off in one of the remaining holes and chase the threads.

What Poser said, OR drill whole new mounting holes into the skid plate and frame, then remount with larger bolts ??? Probably not much more work than trying to clean up the old mounting holes ??
