Hey Guys, I was driving my dads 100 today and noticed the pedal soften and sink while at a stop light. I have read through all the threads that I can find and plan on doing a master cylinder rebuild and sending my booster motor to Eurton to be rebuilt. I have seen some reference to replacing the accumulator right away and was wondering if thats a good choice or an unnecessary expense?

Truck is a 2003 with 281,XXX on the clock.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Joe

Thanks for the recommendation but I am mechanically inclined and willing to do the work if it means saving $1500 or so. At this point i really just need to know if I should order the accumulator right away or if the old one is good to reuse.

Thanks,

Try to rebuild it first with the kit, only $60 or so. What other symptoms do you have besides sinking peda, any bubbling in the reservoir, any excessive noise, screeches, loss of pressure?

Start with the cheapest and replace the mc first. Fixed it for me.

The sinking brake pedal at the stop light is really the only unusual symptom. The truck has close to 300k is i just assumed that the booster motor needs to be rebuilt and might as well do an overhaul while Im in there. Is there a rebuild kit for the accumulator? I was under the impression that it was a non-serviceable part.

Joe,

Did you have a similar sinking/softening condition while stopped?
mine was intermittent. Soft pedal (often notice at stopped cause thats when I push the brake pedal). If I pumped then pressure would come back.
