Has anyone out there installed a single wire alternator on a Chevy v8 conversion? I just bought one and was wondering if anyone had a diagram of connection points? I searched the FAQ and couldn't find anything...

am I missing something here? If its a true single wire, it just has one wire, which connects from the + post on the alternator to the battery. It is self exicting, so it wont charge until the engine rpm is bumped up over a certain RPM. Street rodders like them for cleanliness of install but why sacrifice low rpm charging with one on a daily driven truck?

no you are not missing anything but some people have never done this and want to make sure it is done right so they ask Q's to make sure it is not messed up.

Howdy! Been running the One Wire Setup for over 15 years. It has internal regulator, so it is simple, just the one charging wire out. If you tend to bump the throttle up at all when you first start up the engine, that takes care of the Excite function. Mine idles at 500 rpm and it is no problem staying excited. John

I have had both. Arguably, the most compelling argument for the 1-wire is that it takes the least amount of knowledge to install.

Like anything, there are advantages and disadvantages. Read this and decide for yourself which to do.

So... with that being said, which wire goes to the fuse block?
I currently have no power to it and therefore no lights?

thanks,
