Aaaah...you betcha Smokey...! :bounce::clap:

Doesn't that put all these "medical grows" out of business??:meh: If each person can grow 4 plants where's the need to purchase?? Or am I not seeing things right?:hmm:

It was only a matter of time!

This thing keeps popping up, and every time it is cheaper and cheaper. Thinking about going to look at it, and get a feel for it. The most obvious thing is the engine bay is a disaster, which might be why it keeps getting re-listed(and unique vehicles don't seem to sell well down here).

Whatcha all think?? Worth my troubles or a waste of time? I am going to go check it out and see how much I can nitpick the price down this weekend I think and see if he bites.

It sounds cool but priced stupid for what it is.

I mean step back and think about it....throw away a toyota part in favor of vw?

My 86 got 20 mph in dd driving..
I cant justufy it for 6 mpg.
That and im not really on the diesel bandwagon. :flipoff2:

I like the concept but feel the motor is under sized/built for the weight and utility duty of the vehicle. Driving it will give you a good idea of how hard the motor is working but without a Pyro you don't know what the egt's are and if it is really tuned right. I know the TDI's can put out a lot of power but they are prone to sudden failure in some cases which varies with the engine type.. Myturbodiesel is a great resource for the weaknesses of the variants. VAG stuff is really expensive but with Bora parts and other resources it can be manageable.
I think a properly sized traditional diesel engine should be close to the same displacement of the original motor and evidence of that will often mean heavier than the stock motor. 2.4 22re or the 3.0 vs. a 1.9TDI. The mercedes OM617 3.0 is a good candidate aside from the fact that it is a tight fit. It rev's high and is a very reliable motor..
I really like the idea of a VW TDI vehicle but after working on one I realized that they are expensive to work on and that combined with volatile diesel prices offsets the killer MPG's. My friends well built early diesel Caddy has given him a lot of grief despite excellent mechanic skills. The MB parts are readily available and don't seem expensive on the accessory side- I haven't looked at internals yet but parts rigs pop up cheap.
Check it out, let us know what you think.

After thinking about it for 10 minutes I realized I was more curious than anything about the swap. Don't really need another vehicle or project but curiousity has me intrigued how it drives.

Called dude and hr was very confrontational on the phone for some reason, and 'forgot' he dropped the price. Gave up on curiosity at that point and been tinkering on my own junk for next weekend. I think I'd rather SAS one with a 22re or even find an 85 if I could. A friend has one with 35's dual cases which get 20-22mpg somehow.

Thanks for the level headed input!

Does anyone know anyone local with 23mm taps? I need to chase my TR and DL threads on big truck

Note to self... Don't check the local area Craigslist when on vacation. Found a 2011 4runner for Mandy and paid $24,500 at a local car lot... Now I gotta drive it home from Vegas on Sunday and get home before 8pm so I can put the kids to bed since it's a school night. On the bright side the new generation 4runner is a lot better than the 04-09 we were looking at. This one has 3rd row seating with quite a bit of leg room in it plus the middle row slides back and forth and reclines. Super quiet and the ride is silky smooth and it's got the sport type interior so it should be kid proof. So glad to be done looking for a car for her.

Did you stop in and say hi to Chumlee??

I didn't see chum Lee but last year I did visit counts customs. Drove the 4runner home from Vegas today in 12 hours flat door to door and only stopped twice for 10 minutes each. It got 21+ mpg with the first tank and 23+ mpg on the second. Definitely a big improvement over the fj cruiser.
