Hello everyone,

New to the forum and this also my first post. I recently bought a 97' LX450 (intro/build thread coming soon) and after much research I have began doing a lot of maintenance to it. I have already re-sealed the front axle and am now in the process of replacing the valve cover gasket and heater hoses. While I have the throttle body off I decided to change all of the vacuum hoses with silicone hoses. I had some 3.5mm left over from my BMW so I already replaced all of the small hoses.

Let me start of by saying that I have done a lot of searching on the forum and cannot find a definitive answer to this question. There are many threads that simply give Toyota part numbers for the hoses but not actual ID dimensions. In one of the many threads I found it stated that the sizes of the hoses needed were 3.5mm (which I CAN confirm to be right) and 5mm (which I CAN NOT confirm to be right or wrong).

Therefore can anyone confirm the ID size of the larger vacuum hoses? I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,
EP

What if you cut one in half to get past the part that was expanded on the fitting?

The ends have expanded while the center has shrunk, I get about a 2mm ID difference from center to end. I think the hoses were replaced at one point with cheap hose (maybe inch hose?) its very brittle and leaves black marks everywhere. While I could take the median of my measurement and order that size I wanted to be as sure as possible. I also thought this post might help someone in the future who is looking for the same thing.

The suv only has 160,000 miles. Based on the little amount of maintenance that seems to have been done to it I would think they're original hoses however they don't have any type of markings like I've seen OEM hose have.

Can’t you measure the vacuum port that the hose came off of? Should be more accurate than trying to measure hose.

Welcome to Mud. First off, we absolutely never use the acronym SUV in reference to any Landcruiser especially one conceived of and built before the world was riding on ifs/rfs. It’s simply disrespectful to the beast that you bought.

Secondly, why use silicone vacuum hose when the factory hoses last longer than you may be alive? Silicone hoses are another example of snake oil and already giving you a headache.

Off the top of my head, I can tell you that you can probably get the info you want and buy the hose you want at a place called cruiser parts.com.

In that case, maybe you could order a couple from Toyota and just measure those?

That's an option, my closest dealer is 30 minutes away so that may be my last resort.

Correct, the hoses I'm trying to replace are on the bottom of the intake so I can't really fit my calipers in there. If there are only two sizes (small and large) of hose then I could just measure a vacuum port readily accessible however I'm not sure if there is only two sizes or more. If anyone can confirm that there are only two sizes then I could answer my own question.

Thanks for the welcome! Note taken on the suv part. Haha. I'll accredit that to my inexperience in the LC world.

I agree to an extent that silicone hoses are snake oil....the reason I like them is because they can easily be taken off because silicone doesn't adhere to metal/plastic over time like rubber does. For that same reason, in my opinion, I would only use silicone hose for vacuum applications and not coolant. As far as "performance" I think the differences are trivial.

I think there are only two sizes on the underside of the intake. However, when I replaced my head gasket, I was going to replace all of those hoses and I decided against it because they seemed totally fine and I am sure they are original. I think I actually bought some sections of hose at NAPA and was planning on replacing them, but the ones I bought were the wrong size and after inspecting the ones that were on there I decided to just say f-it and skip replacing them. Still no issues, several thousand miles later.

That's what I'm thinking. If I don't figure out the exact size soon I'm going to order and try 5mm ID hose. If that doesn't work I'll put the originals back on and say screw it.

...

Exactly, the legal description on my title is station wagon, get it right! :hillbilly:

A little update, I measured all the ports that I could reach on/around the intake area and measured 6.25-6.5mm. I think the fluctuation was because of my fumbling trying to move the calipers. I ordered 6mm hose because they didn't offer any half sizes besides the 3.5mm that I had. I think it should work fine but I'll see, I'm hoping it fits the way I want it to. If anything I'll purchase some 1/4" hose from the parts store which should be closer to size. I'll let you guys know what happens.

These are the part numbers you need. These part numbers replace every single vacuum and EVAP line under the hood. Beyond the 3.5mm ID hose, everything else will be location and duty specific.

The second number after the 10-digit Toyota part number will be the quantity you need. This will only be applicable to 8/1992-1/1998 FZJ80 trucks for the US market:

90999-92003: 8 (cut to fit)
25695-66010: 1 (formed, EGR)
95337-06020: 1 (cut to fit)
95333-06010: 1 (cut to fit)
90910-05212: 1 (formed)
90910-05217: 1 (formed)
95334-06010: 1 (cut to fit: FPR)
77795-60020: 1 (formed, EVAP)
77754-60180: 1 (formed, EVAP)
23273-66031: 1 (formed, EVAP)
77279-60020: 1 (formed, EVAP)
12261-66021: 1 (formed, PCV)
12262-66021: 1 (formed, VC ventilation)

I generally recommend replacing the check valves as well since they are stupid cheap: 90917-10049: Two for the 1993-1994 trucks; One for the 1995-1997 trucks.

Any dealership bumpkin punching numbers can get you these part numbers.

Woah, this is great! Thanks for posting this!

I received my 6mm vacuum hose today and I was able to replace all the larger hoses under the intake. The new hose fit perfectly and snuggly onto all the nipples and I didn't use any hose clamps. So.....6mm hose will work for the vacuum hoses under the intake manifold. I haven't started or driven the LC so I'll post if there are any issues that arise caused by the vacuum hoses.
