Currently Kingsport, TN trying to move to ATL
I work out of the Atlanta airport, and would prefer to live with in reason from work. What areas do you recomend? I would like to live on the North side near Lake Allatoona, But the Gas used by Chevy back and forth from work would kill or hurt my budget for wheeling, But would put me closer to the Mountains.

I found a great place off of camp creek parkway near some high end neighborhoods, But Know the area can be a little shady to say the least. But would cut way down on gas consumption to and from work.

Anyone work near or around the airport? And if so what side of town do you live?

Are you renting, or purchasing? I would avoid everything around Camp Creek. Have you considered Mableton?

x2 on the south of the city area.
I travel to airport fairly regularly, 45-50 min. commute with moderate traffic.
If you have kids, plan on kids, consider east cobb, West roswell, East Roswell (crossville and holcomb bridge road area)

East side roswell, you have 2 access points to downtown,
400 and peachtree industrial to 85 south

West roswell, you have 400 and Sandy plains road to 75.

Both around the Sub 1hr. commute to airport.
If you look, many homes are well under 200K as there are alot of older neighborhoods (aka, bigger lots/basic homes) vs. newer neighborhoods(1990s and newer) smaller lots, etc.

You are pretty well situated to mountains in this area and lake Lanier and allatoona.

Good luck

If only we could build a trail at sweat mountain, how great would that be so close by

Rent my house in Woodstock! :)

Douglasville is Redneck and they talk funny!!! West Cobb is the place you want to be (30 miles out)! Thorton road turns into Campcreek parkway which goes right into the Airport. Cobb County has low taxes Strong Police , Fire/EMS force. Good schools. Let me know when you'll be in town and I'll show you around. I've been in West Cobb since 1987 raised two boys here.
Stone Castle 08 small.webp

Ditto on Henry's points (minus the redneck & strange talk because I have no room to talk).

Plus FYI, I know several Delta pilots and mechanics that live in the west Cobb area due to the relative commuting ease and the quality of schools available. However, the guys I know that run down to the airport drive somewhat cheap older cars that have fair fuel economy to help with the cost.

Good luck and welcome to the area regardless where you pick.

Well I am here during the week. I stay at a Crash Pad next to the airport. Its funny Cause Im a Furloughed pilot for ASA which is the leading Delta Connection Carrier out of ATL. They were nice enough to give me a desk job till I get call back. What I am Looking for is a 4 Bedroom house with 3 car garage all around 190 or less. preferred newer. I reallize its a tough list, but with the economy the way it is, its doable. I'll take a look around W Cobb and see what I can find.

Hendog- like I said, Im here all week and free after 430 ish. Let me know when is good for you.
By the way, Thats a nice looking house! Im assuming you have an association. And if you had a trailer you couldn't keep it at the house??

Luckily there are good number of non-subdivision areas around. My current home and our last one in west Cobb were not in subdivisions, so no restrictions beyond the county (i.e., trailer parked next to shop, vehicle hulk on other side of shop where wife does not have to see it, ...). Good luck in your search.

How about Hiram, GA. Seems like a good middle of the road kinda place.

Worth looking seriously at;
Paulding county schools are suppose to be good and improving quality every year. There should be more opportunities for nice homes on good sized lots at reasonable prices. Plus it should also be a somewhat easier drive to the airport from that area. Finally, Hiram has a lot of ready access to the Silver Comet trail (if you are into road cycling with mountain bike/horse trails adjacent).

Found a Great Place in Hiram that we like from pictures we see. Now here is the big question. Are there any local trails? HA. Course it doesn't really matter, I have to trailer my rig anyways.

Well that's a different issue altogether. You're in good shape for some of the private places in east Alabama such as Morris Mountain and Choccoloco (sp?). However, most of the places we run are North Ga. / North Carolina / and lately TN. Looking at the map it's going to automatically add about 30+ minutes to the ride.

Where do yall run in TN. I currently live an hour away from Harlan, but have never been. I used to wheel Aetna Mountain when I lived in Chattanooga and still have friends that do. So I know I plan to be wheeling it again.

I might have overstated that, actually we ran it once last year and we're headed back again in a couple of months. We went up wheeled with the damn locals north of Chat. and had a good time. In fact, look at https://forum.ih8mud.com/members/bgarcia88fj62.htmlBGarcia88FJ62's avatar, the story is in the thread from back then. enjoy

If I'm not mistaken Gwinnette county and in particular the area you're speaking of has one of, if not the highest crime rate in Atlanta metro. Not to say all of Gwinnette is that way but that neck of the woods is iffy. I did a surveillance camnera project out that way a couple years ago, a warehouse project b/w I-20 and Stone Mtn. Freeway. Every time I went to the job site I made sure I was "packing" and I almost never do that.

I currently live in tucker. I absolutely love it here. Access to everything but outta the way as well. My landlords sold the house and im gonna be moving soon. But i would highly reccomend tucker.
