I have been getting a odd shutter in the vehicle speed when exiting the freeway or cresting hills. It appears to be induced when the throttle is released and feels like excessive backlash in the drivetrain. During the deceleration or backing off the throttle it will shutter/surge ~3 times per second until the speed drops below 55 mph. It's getting bad enough that it feels like it's starting to upset the suspension. I suspect that the center differential is the culprit as I recently disconnected the front driveshaft without change and recently went through the rear differential to check it out for the problem (ring gear was actually a little tight by the manual). Drivelines have no play but there seems to be a fair amount of play on either shaft in the center diff. Twisting nets about a 15 degree change.

Anyone felt anything like this out of their vehicles?

Secondly I did some preliminary searches at the salvage yards for CDs and came up empty handed for a 91 or 92 but found one from a 93. Will the 93-97's with the VC work? The salvage yard would not say.

how much lift do you have? Have you dropped the Rear Drive Shaft? Try that next...you could have the same thing I do, an excessive DS angle.

There have also been recent posts/reports of driveshafts being replaced out of phase and/or out of balance that would produce such an effect.

No lift I'm afraid. Any issues with running in front wheel drive at 75? Sorry but it just seems a bit odd. I can try that next.
