Local wholesale auto dealer has a 2013 GX460 with 228k miles for sale and asking $12’800. Haven't seen in person yet or pulled any reports, but assuming maintenance records are good it seems like a good deal? Whats been every ones experience with that year and mileage? Do transmissions, transfer cases start to go out around then? I assume that engine is bullet proof like my LX470 was?

I too have a 2013 with 118k on the clock (R²M 2013 GX 460 Overland Build). Have had it for 6 years now and has been nothing but a joy owning.
If you look through my build thread, you'll see my wife and I do a lot of overlanding, camping and road trips. Went from our home in So. Cal to Maine for a lobster dinner and back in 9 days, with some 1,000 miles days of driving and never an issue, neither with comfort nor with mechanical issues. Probably the only "big" item we had replaced was the radiator. They have plastic necks and are prone to breaking.
About the only other issue is wear on the drivers seat, but I'm a big guy at 6' and some two hundred (cough, cough, mumble...) pounds.
Other than that, no issues at all.

It looks pretty straight. Is it a Luxury or standard trim level? It looks like it may be Luxury if I'm seeing correctly in the photo that there's chrome trim along the rear window trim D pillars. If the CarFax or whatever you use to to search the vehicles history, I hope it works out for you!

My 2010 has almost 189k and still rides and drives like new. Even the factory bushings aren't cracked and factory shocks aren't leaking or blown. I've personally put 55k miles on it since I bought it in August 2020 with 134k on the clock for $15k. Best vehicle purchase I've ever made. And I've owned almost 3 dozen vehicles in my life.

My only issues were a small coolant valley plate leak and radiator replacement. You won't find a more reliable or rugged vehicle today than a GX470 or GX460.

If my GX were for sale I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. If it's free of rust and has a healthy service history and passes a PPI go for it.

We might be on different pages when shopping for vehicles but it wouldn’t be a good deal to me. Good deal to me would be: I would try to find something in the 12-15k miles/yr category, Lexus maintenance records help the cause if they are consistent, include Lexus recommended services and bigger ticket items have been done recently. Side note - are the wheels mismatched finishes? I would also want more details from the Carfax on where it has been and how many lovers it has had.

Good deal based on price alone? If that is what your budget allows, it checks the first box. Unless your budget gets destroyed because it has lots to bring it back to Lexus standards.

PPI would help build confidence along with a traceable road map of its’ maintenance. At a high level, It’s a good deal if $12,800 doesn’t put you in debt and you have to have a V8 Lexus. Many more layers to an onion than just the outside. IMHO.
