I finished my front knuckle rebuild/birf swap yesterday and found a broken stud on the passenger side steering knuckle. I scrambled around to find one and turns out I need to wait a few days for the local toyo dealer to order one in. I ordered 2 just in case. So I just put it all back together with three studs holding on. Its been that way for who knows how long so whats a few more days. Any ways... my question is, after removing the tire of course, instead of taking apart the entire knuckle assembly can I just drop the steering arm/lower trunion bearing and putting a new stud onto the steering knuckle without throwing everything else off? What do you guys think?

Should not need to take knuckle off just droop steering and drill out or however your going to remove, I'd do all four though with new cone washers and nuts , I did not clean out the holes really or use lock tite on mine just torqued them in with all new hardware

that's what im thinking too. I drilled and extracted the broken stud no problem so no issue there. I guess the double nut trick should snug the new stud back in without an issue, that's how I tightened another loose one I found. Just hoping for no surprises that's all.

Double nut will work fine to install the new stud. I use a 24 oz ball-peen hammer to hit the underside of the steering arm and gradually tighten the four nuts to make sure that arm is dead flat to underside of the knuckle. I've never had a nut or stud come loose.

thanks for the tip ill be sure to hammer a bit when reassembling.

The new Toyota studs should have the torx on the end to allow you to install it with a torx socket... No need to remove arm or use double nuts. Hth.

I already ordered the studs but I hope the toyo dealership gets me those! Would make my life ez. Thanks!

I'm fairly certain that all of these studs are now designed like that. You wouldn't happen to have the part number for the studs you ordered, would you?

You should replace all the studs while your at it, the other 3 could have been weakened with the 4th gone

I don't have the part number handy, I just went to the dealership and showed them what I needed. Ill follow up with the part number when I get my studs.

I would replace all of them, take it apart , clean it well , especially the threads , then use locktite when assembling , I had one break last new years.. took it apart, cleaned it and put it together with all new bolts, but didn't use locktite, after 4 months I had to do it all again because one of them worked it self loose and fell out, used locktite the last time and it hasn't moved , they break because they get loose and then the assembly starts to wiggle and cuts the studs

I wouldn't use shortcuts when working with things that are a big safety issue, if all of them break and it falls apart you will loose steering and the knuckle can come apart while driving..

Im happy to hear from the Ih8mud community on this one. You all are a really big help. Ill have it ship shape in no time. Safety first of course!

They all supersede to the Torx style heads. 90126-12005

You were right Beno that's what the toyo dealership ordered me. The install went smooth all thanks to the torx style heads.
