So, I just got my 2000 LC and mechanic is telling me that the front shocks need to be replaced fairly soon. He recommended replacing the front shocks with Monroe Factory spec shocks.

If i'm going to replace the shocks, I'm wondering if there is another shock that would help reduce body roll a bit? Body roll is not bad currently, but if I'm going to replace them, it might be nice to reduce it a bit to improve highway driving.

I do not wan't a lift, just a factory height shock that will help reduce body roll. Does this exist?

Do I need to replace all 4 or just the front like he is recommending?

I put Icon Stage 1's on my 01 and it reduced the body roll tremendously. It rides so much better now, I could not believe how much of an improvement it was.

Did you do all 4?
Yes all 4. Its #1 on my most well spent money for my 100. They are not cheap though... but they always go on sale on black Friday if you can wait.

Thanks Savirc!
Well, thats what I'm looking for, however it looks like it's more than I can spend at the moment. Anyone have experience with the Bilstein 4600 shocks on a stock 100? Any other recommendation thats a bit more affordable?

You can't go wrong with OEM shocks, they are dirt cheap and last forever. You mention concerns about body roll and your mechanic is saying the front shocks are shot. I'd just throw on OEM (I think they are about $35 each) and see what happens. Bound to be better that the bad shocks you have on now. If that still doesn't help go towards the more expensive options.

I put new OEMs on all 4 corners and love the ride. It's soft no doubt, but it makes for a wonderful cruiser and they hold their own off road too.

New anything beats worn out old shocks, and smart-shopper price on OEM is likely less than Monroe. But they don't last forever, or take abuse terribly well, but for thirty-five bucks a corner, who cares???

@n55luvr Do you have a lift or over sized tires? Curious how stock shocks handle them. I need to replace rear springs and shocks all around, but want to go with OEM. I looked at the shocks i have now and they are not OEM. At least i dont think they are. They are silver and i think stock is black...

No lift on my 04 LC but i have the front tbars twisted a bit to bring the front end up. Front still sits about 1" lower than the rear. I will say that when I installed new OEM springs a few weeks back I got close to 1" lift in the rear which was very welcome. My previous OEM springs were toast. Solid rust coating and had sagged terribly.

My OEM shocks are all black housing.

I am also running 32" BFG KO2s. So slightly larger than stock by a bit more than an inch.

I run 30mm spacers in back on one rig, OME 865's on the other, with OEM bars cranked to match with 295/75/16 Nitto TG and OEM shocks. Works well enough...

Another vote for cheap OEM shocks. While I think it is a bit soft for my taste, it is the best bang for the buck considering the price. Also check the sway bar bushings, and end links. Mine were all in need of replacements.

This is exactly what I'm looking to do. 865 rears, crank TB, and OEM shocks. I had all rows filled with people and the rear was sagging and bottomed out constantly. I don't do any crazy stuff so this will work great.

I know I will need alignment with TB crank. But what about shocks and springs? Don't recall...

I just did OEM shocks about a month ago. I did notice slightly less body roll, but I was simply due for new shocks as the originals had 185k on them and tire wear was getting funky from it. Anyways, I simply chose the OEM shocks because I can buy them TWICE for the price of one set of OME shocks.

No shocks alone wont really mitigate body roll. Some higher end aftermarket shocks (with better valving) with dampen the effect but not by much, or by themselves. It's really a series of interlinked components that you have to consider upgrading to affect body roll: swaybar endlinks & bushings, body mounts, rear control arm bushings & panhard bushings, rear coil springs, torsion bars, and tire profile & sidewall stiffness.

If you dont wheel your truck, or have bumpers, winch, sliders, drawers, RTT etc.- consider the Toyota OEM (Kayaba) shocks. IMO they are great for the money ($120+/-) for 4 and they'll last for at least another 100k.

I also run into huge sagging issue when loaded down on the oem setup. Rather than 865s I went the air bag route because I was hoping to retain stock like ride when completely unloaded which is most of the time. Although I'll admit the 865s are tempting. If I'm not happy with the air bags I'll go the 865 route next.

And for just replacing shocks and springs I've never gotten an alignment and haven't noticed any unusual tire wear.

Thanks, so it seems the consensus is to just go with OEM Toyota shocks. The current ones are original and have 165k miles on them, so I'm expecting this will be a big improvement.

Where would I buy the Toyota OEM shocks? Any way to buy them online with no tax and free shipping?

Thanks Savirc!

The 4600 fronts would work but the 4600 rears are too short and you will break them - I can send you the pics.

As mentioned go OEM for now and when funds are ample get some ICON, Radflo, Fox etc.

41 seems pricy for these... seems like last time they were 26.
Yes, but he asked for free shipping and no tax. If he's a Prime member, they come pretty quick too.
