hi all I am looking to make my ride a bit more comfortable and my standed factory shocks will need getting rid off real soon.. so I have limited selection of shocks I can get here that is the o.m.e (with or with out springs or whole suspention kit)or rancho's (shocks only) I would like to go for the shocks only right now. which one will the, Toyota's guru's recommend I get.. my 4 wheel driving is mostly medium at best mostly large pot hole and mud holes in wild life parks, looking for animals which I would like to go over medium speed as well as with out getting my butt cheeks in a twist. since my rig is mwb73 I know it wont turn out very comfertable but please any one who as any experiance with either one of the shocks on a HZJ 73 please post.

I can't speak for the Rancho's but I run the OME's on my BJ74 and they are great. 1.5 years so far with no issues. If you can afford it get the OME springs as well and you will be loving life.

if you are considering springs in the future then it is a waste of time and money to get shocks hnow since they will nto fit the lift springs...
buy the package deal,
or
my favorite, buy the springs, etc but NO SHOCKS and install the Ranchos that are the PROPER length for the lift. the OME are too short in the kit. a shock should not bottom out before the spring does, a shock is not designed to be a "limiting strap"...
but what do i know...

well this might sound silly but when you say springs does this mean coil springs or leaf springs as my 73 is leaf spring on both front and rear. That's why I thought I could get the leaf springs later.. since the stock one's look good right now... Is this true for the damper as well, because I need to replace the damper as well and the OME damper is much cheaper than the original and looks like it will be better and stronger for my 33 tires.

Bringing this thread back,

I am planning an OME lift. I have heard many times that the Nitrocharger shocks are too short; my question is, how much too short are they?

I would like to get the job done in a day, and have the shocks ready to go, rather than measure, and hope somebody has the ones I need in stock. My plan is to order some Ranchos that are longer than the OME ones, but would like to know what length.

Thanks guys

The OMEs can be a lot too short depending on the springs you end up using.

Best to order non-OME shocks after the measurements have been done. I have a few thoughts and part numbers for this, but no time to go and dig out the numbers right now.

Thanks for the advice John

I am planning cs017A's in the rear and cs006f's, with GS1 shackles all around, and 4* shims, and Ranchos all around including stabilizer.

Would strongly suggest the OME stabilizer, it's better than almost anything else out there.

The OME shocks are really good, just too short. There are longer ones available, however.

I'll try to get some part numbers later on, but don't get upset if it takes a while.

With my coil-sprung 4Runner, I found other brands of shocks poorly complemented the OME coil springs. The explanation for this I heard was that OME springs are typically stiffer than other brands and the shocks are soft as not to make the ride harsh. I found Procomp shocks and OME springs to give an spine-shattering ride. I wouldn't be surprised if Dakar leafs are similarily stiff and need a soft shock.

I posted this on yotatech a while back:

I've found it very helpful to have a list of shock lengths to work with when I have been researching how to get the most travel out of my 4Runner. Here's what I was able to find

Here are some of the sites i found useful. Could someone post the lengths of OME shocks or any other relevant brands please?

Im interested in knowing, what would be the correct measurements for the OME suspension package if i were to replace my shocks?

What Crushers says makes sense... im guessing the correct measurements would make a world of difference in flex, but would it make a difference in driving comfort?

longer shocks will allow more travel but on everyday driving enviroment the stock shocks are fine as well the longer shocks will still ride the same ...

so get the proper shocks and call it a day.
