I was taking off my front shocks and snapped the stud(fn rust). Any solutions out there. I have another set of shocks, but they are not the long ones.
Cheers,
Sean

IH8Rust,

time for new shocks, I cant tell for sure from the pic but that looks like the oil side of the shock, would not want to try to weld anything there.

eeeuuuu - I take it you get salt on the roads up there.....you can use your short shocks in the interim to get by. You just won't have full extension for off roading.

I love the south!!!!

Well looks like new shock time. Have to call Ben and pic em up at Moab. Salt Salt SALT, its like living in a salt mine. Lots of salts and very often around 32 degrees F much of the winter.
Cheers,
Sean

Yup toss those in the dustbin. AN put the others on til you get to Moab.

Thats the plan, & they are on. Have a bunch of stuff from Slee that I will get shipped to Moab. Just need to find a place to ship to as I am leaving for Moab tomorrow for some biking, etc. If anybody has an address in Moab I can ship a fridge, upper control arms and a couple of shocks let me know. Don't know why I didn't think of asking here before. It will save me alot of extra driving as I am coming from Fernie and to go to Golden Co. as well will add alot. Will inquire in Chat as well.
Cheers,
Sean

You can probably make your short shocks last longer and work better by making an extender. Just fold a flat bar into a rectangle, weld the ends and drill a couple of holes.

Sean,

As a temporary measure, you can use a coupler to extend a short shock. However, since your'e getting longer ones, you don't need to go this route. In any case, are you using antiseize on ALL of hardware threads? I'm sure you are but just a quick reminder! I live in the salt belt too so I'm a bit anal on applying this stuff on everything including bushing holes.

Cheers and see you in Moab.

Mate of mine runs $40 Kenworth shocks on her insane GQ Patrol ute. She needed 17" travel shocks so got these chopped the eyes off and welded (carefully) pins on. She's been running these shocks for about two years now and hasn't broken the pins yet, although she did bend the body of one of the shocks when the Caterpiller TRE she was using as an "A" frame joint broke.

Quick pic of her rig with welded pin shocks

In that pic her back wheel is against the stopper on the top of the ramp with plenty still to go. My 80 only gets to within 6-8" of the top.
