Can we talk shocks , wondering how much rod should be showing while the rig is sitting on flat ground. My cruiser is soa currently , where I live we don't get alot of need for huge travel since we are limited to old roads and maybe atv trails. I have a length of like 21 inches eye to eye on the front shocks at a rest on level ground and am thinking of taking a compressed length and then adding a few inches for extension while it's sitting or at traveling on roadways ? Make sense ?. Looking for thoughts please .

Has it been working fine so far? Clamp some boots over them - will help keep the rods clean - out of sight is out of mind.

You don't want the shock to bottom out on compression or extension. Measure the distance between the bumpstop and axle. That will be maximum compression. Put your suspension at full droop or more accurately find an rti ramp to drive up on to help find your extended length. Then find a shock that works within those parameters. You may have to adjust your bumpstops(lower) or install limiting straps to limit the suspension travel at full extension to accommodate the shocks travel.

I'll have to wait till I reassemble and take some measurements, my old shocks seemed to give me enough travel for my needs but they didn't seem to have much chrome showing when it was on a level surface . The pic is showing the current state it sits at .

Id hold off and buy shocks last, after you are at a point to flex it out and take some eye to eye measurements.
