You guys keep quoting FSIMIG (aka Sparky) which defeats the purpose of having him on my twit filter.

How can so much drivel come from one smarta$$ that is supposed to be finishing high school?

-B-

You see, that is where you are wrong. It seems that his posts ARE tech, we just don't know the true meaning of the word.

You too, will one day be enlightened to the point where, (if you are chosen to be enlightened, that is) you will realize the vast wisdom and insightfulness that we have been blessed with.

You see, we have it all wrong, and we should thank him for bestowing upon us the time-saving techniques of duct tape and how attention to detail is just really a waste of time. He was blessed with a natural born sense to wheel since he learned how to drive, and we are all the better for his presence here.

I became enlightened just recently, you see, when the Master of the Obvious pointed out that his posts were going over my head. My blood started to boil, and I started to think how could anyone (I was ignorant at the time, just like you) think this was just hazing or something, oblivious to what was going on around them.

But then I saw the light, and I realized the error of my ways. Take him off twit filter status, and embrace all that he has to offer......

I hate to say it guys, but sparky might have a point, even if he doesn't know it. A '91 FJ80 w/ 201k miles on the chassis probably isn't worth a ton of money. Is it a wise move to drop a supposed $2k into this chassis? Especially considering these types of things generally cost 150% of the original estimate. So say $3000 to get her back on the road and running right. The truck with a running motor is probably only worth $4-5.....

$3000 puts a damn good dent in the $9-15k purchase price of a '93-97 Cruiser. Just some food for thought.

Ary, it is worth maybe $1,000 now as a parts donor sold whole. It will be tons of time, hassle and labour to sell it for parts. Lets value you it now at $1000 and assume it costs $2-3,000 to replace the motor. your question should be, would you pay an effective price of $3-4,000 total for a 91 with 201 k on the chassis and a used engine with 45k on it or whatever mileage he gets? My answer would be yes, assuming the rolling chassis is in good shape. In fact I challenge you to find a better vehicle for $4,000.

Well, here's the story. I had a 87 Taco that my parents so lovingly trade in for THEIR newly used LC in 92. I got my driverslicense in this truck. We have had it ever since, all records since ~20K. I love this truck. Had a new dealer paint job in 2000 ($6,000). I took her out in the mud for the first time a few months ago and she rocked. I went out to Uwharrie here in NC and she ate up the trails. I will not part with my truck. Period, so the question now is replace the 3FE or V-8. My dad is a purist, wants the 3FE, but I'm thinking about a 5.3 Vortec myself. Only downside is the lack of funds, I just replaced her with a 04 Sienna for my wife. I know big change right! I do like the FZJ80s but, I think I could make one Heck of a ride for 12K out of my truck.

Ary, you make a good point, but the first part of this thread indicates he needs to spend as little as possible. Your suggestion might make more sense if one has the option to spend 9-15K, but I took it that he needs to get this one going again...

Now that his motor is toast, I agree with Semlin's take. Of course, even if I felt you were right, I wouldn't have publicly agreed with you anyway, considering that you actually thought Sparky had a clue :D :flipoff2:
