Is there any reason why the rear shackles (of my OME dakar kit) could not be moved to the front and just by a set of longer for the rear?

no. You can put em anywhere you please.

Keep in mind, its not about how "high" you can get it, its getting the best angle... A shackle that is almost perfectly verticle is almost useless and a VERY uncomfortable ride... The longer the shackle, the longer your spring needs to be or you will need to push the shackle hanger foward (or backward depending). People argue all the time about the "perfect" angle but I've always shot for 45ish degrees...

Goodluck...

Amen to that. I moved my shackle mounts to achieve the proper angle and that combined with a longer shackle, gives me a great ride and crazy articulation especially in the drop department and I never invert.

Thanks for the info my shackle angles are currently pretty good but i was thinking of making a set of shackle plates ( longer ) for the rear and just using the pins that came them and swapping the rear to the front just to get a little more lift buuuuuut after looking at them today the fronts are 3 1/4 from bolt to bolt and the rears are 3 5/8 so I dont think it is worth doing.

Marlin Sells 3/8 shackles plates in tons of different lengths for like 6 bucks a pair. Check them out...
