SFA 100 series - How many?

You may as well keep the IFS if you want adjustable suspension and 33s. The reason most folks want to go with a SAS/SFA swap is to fit larger tires, increase reliability of the front end components and increase suspension flex/articulation, none of which the AHC/IFS system does well.

If you go with the solid axle swap, you will ditch the front end components which include the torsion bars and also the hydraulic shocks. I wouldn't imagine that it is feasible, cost effective or make complete sense to keep the AHC system while swapping the front steering and drive components.

To me 33's and a solid front axle is the perfect combo for articulation and flex... I have done pretty much every trail in Northern California with that combo.. With the addition of the AHC you can adjust the system. Why can't you just reuse the springs and hydraulic shocks and adapt them to the solid axle? I bet since the 200 series doesn't use the torsion system, it is feasible.

Does anyone know how different the 100 frame is compared to the 80? If they are the same in dimensions the SAS front link kit that this company provides should be a direct swap for ours. Pan hard bar is straight compared to Slee's blueberry build (curved). The panhard is the only concern that i have hitting the oilpan.
The 100 series frame is about 5" wider directly above where the straight axle would sit and then the frame is even wider where the radius arms would mount to the frame.

A few years ago nobody was running 35s and it seems like that population is rising slowly.

John Shotts was. And they didn't rub.

Is everyone really wheeling the s#%@ out of their trucks that much where a SFA is that necesarry? Don't get me wrong I love the idea but its pretty impractical and very time consuming for your average Joe to make this happen. Plus I take my hundo out wheeling 10x as much as my SA buggy because it does 3 jobs at once; drives safe/comfortable, heats my ass, and has everything I need on it :)

Sorry for being off topic

Let's not try to resurrect those that are gone :hillbilly:

He's been gone long enough we should let sleeping dogs lie.

The other aspect:

sell 100 + 20-25K ~= 200 + an old yota to beat on the rocks

Either way, this picture makes me feel kinda funny inside

What's wrong with him? I haven't been on here long enough to know about him other then through the searches I've seen. Which hasn't really turned up anything obvious and his blog or whatever you call it. I'd like to run 35s myself and was using some of his info to gather parts. Was he BSing or something.

Lol. Can't believe The legend of Schottzz is back. Long story short, he was ahead of most pushing to 315s on a 100. And he generally just only took his own advice and had a rather unique brashness that did not translate well to forums.
One thing I will say is that he was highly against anything other than OME parts that bolted on like factory parts due the additional maintenance involved. Most discounted his thoughts on that but I have read many posts about people being unsatisfied about making the move to the "performance" type suspensions on a 100. They do in fact require need extra maintenance and may make noises that an OEM type setup would due to additional moving parts, different bushing compositions etc. Overall, I don't think you are doing anything wrong following the great Schottzz, it's just funny for us around here that recall his antics and fits.

^^ what he said. My comment about the BFG 315's was a little ribbing at Shotts. ;) That and N74L's was his thing. There was an emoticon in his name... :deadhorse:

That said, I don't disagree that 35s can work nor do I disagree with the notion that a durable Expo rig is one that stays close to stock. The history has more to do with the dialog in the threads than the technical.

I never knew Johnny wanted to sas a Hundy. Thanks though. He was an innovator though and I maybe one of the only few that refer to his site for input on...
Example how to build your own diff drop.

But I have these brewing now.

I'll post after I'm done.

Back to the subject. Anyone think that the kit will fit the Hundys aside from the 5 inch frame difference?

Do you think that a 5 inch curry unit maybe needed to allow the width?

Or go smaller and stick with the 80's axles.

These are sliders by the way.

not trying to be douchey but if you want a kit for this you probably shouldn't be taking it on. SAS are complicated but there isn't that much to it when you break it down: brackets, links, steering box and shaft, brake lines, skill and time.

Does anyone know if 105 axles are wider than 80 axles or are they the same with a different bolt pattern?

A kit would probably be the easiest because of the bracketry. I'm just not comfortable using universal brackets and cut and weld linkages. So maybe I should just rest it then. I guess this is a pirate issue than a silver spoon edition.

I know that the 105 uses the 80 front axle if I recall.

If you have the scratch you can buy the parts to convert to a 105 sfa:

4311060400 Axle housing
411106A150 Third member 4.30
4340560110 Birfield
4341160090 RH inner axle
4341260110 LH inner axle
Etc I didnt verify years and compatibility but these are all 105 parts and are in stock at partsouq

4411060211 Steering box
4321160110 Knuckle
4321260110 Knuckle
4861060022 Radius arm
4874060050 Panhard

All the frame brackets are here

FRAME | LAND CRUISER 100 FZJ105L-GCMNK FZJ10#,HDJ100,HZJ105,UZJ100 | Toyota | Genuine Parts Catalogs | PartSouq Auto Parts Around the World

If somebody took the time they could come up with every oem part number required to covert a 100 front suspension to 105.
