nice vid! it looks better in the sunlight than in photos.

basically, looks like Toyota is testing the waters for a 4door FJ Cruiser.

I would prefer a 4 door FJC, but just stick with the FJC theme, and don't try to mix the 4r in to it. Though I can't see a reason for Toyota to have a 4r and a 4 door FJC.

Exactly.
I prefer the FJ just the way it is with 2 doors plus the suicide ones.
The convertible pics that popped up are pretty cool too, but that would be useless for me since I carry gear on the roof, but I can see how some would like to order the option.

i'm from the 100 series sect and just wanted to chime in i like the fj; my friend has the blue one and we go wheelin together but for people that have kids etc a 4 dr would be great look at the jeep they also came out with a 4 dr; i dont like the back door thing but a 4dr fj or just easier rear doors??? its a great vehicle for 2 people that have to carry some gear ; does that make sense? but for more then 2 on a regular basis it needs easier doors

Is it me or does that fj runner just look like a 4runner with a fj front section slapped on.
I'm not a fan, but I do like those custom rims.
As for a four door I think if Toyota made those suicide doors a little wider and put a window in them that actually goes down, it would make everyone happy.

At the very least, these guys deserve credit for a build with so little time. What was it, 2 months? That's no time at all. How much time did Toyota take to develop the FJC?

I don't work in this industry, but from working in print publishing two months notice on a special project might as well be two days. And that's an office job. This crew got to actually build something. I'm envious.

It's evident these guys busted their humps to take on this project and put their work out there for public consumption 24/7. Now, there's a platform to work off of, visualize on how to make it better, etc.

All I know is I like the way the 2 door FJ looks until you have to jump in the back. I don't know if this design was just for fun or if the next FJ will get a 4-door option. The only thing I wish they would've done on this custom is the white top. It's pretty iconic.

I really like the idea of this thing. With a kid on the way, I have been rather disappointed with the suicide doors and getting a baby carrier in and out of the truck is going to suck. This would take care of that issue.

The other thing is that I have hated the 4r design since it got all rounded and cushy...what like 3rd gen? I looked at a 4r to replace my 2nd gen when it died an untimely death and just couldn't bring myself to spend the money on something that was that "fancy." I went with an Xterra. However, my Toyota loyalty remained and as soon as the FJ hit the lot, it was in my driveway. So a more beefed up 4r/FJ thing would be great in my book.

Vu IS talented. I like it! Hopefully Toyota will use it for some styling cues on the next Gen FJ or upcoming 4Runner.

I think Toyota hired the WRONG person to do this. The guy even admitted "we NEVER do off-road vehicles". So why the hell did Toyota have him do an FJ??!! He wanted to make the FJC look like a "sissy". So he threw a bunch of billet aluminum on it? This joker needs to stick to Hummers on 24" spinners. Sorry, but that thing was lame.

uh maybe b/c they have a working relationship built on many successful projects, he can deliver the goods on time and they like his work? Maybe they wanted a slightly different perspective on the truck?

He delivered. It may not be to our taste in every detail but I think he did a great job. The resolution of all the forms and the transitions in the shapes look smooth and well thought out.

I don't think it's 100% but it's a solid effort. Looks sharp w/ some great ideas.

alrighty...

1. The billet stuff is WAY played out! If any of us wanted a hummer we would have one!
2. The FJ is for off-roading right? Well, Anyone who actually does already knows, if the FJ was any bigger it would be near impossible to take on most GOOD trails! Not to mention the extra weight!
3. The back door handle might look cool, but imagine how annoying it would be always having to open the door backwards like that!

1. agreed, don't like some of the details
2. The 4Runner (which that is) does very well offroad. V6 4Runner is the same weight as the FJC, the V8 is marginally heavier
3. do you mean the side rear doors? I don't think it's any more annoying than the FJC's suicide doors. tho actual door handles would be more practical. what do you mean opening the door backwards?

Errrr the billet is for show. Let it go, it's a concept car. I'm excited about the idea of a rugged 4-door offroad vehicle from Toyota.

blah

well, I don't remember exactly what I wrote so I'm not even gonna try to fix it!...It's not that big of a deal!
My point with the back doors is that they open normal (from the left) but the handle is on the right...so you have to use two hands to open the door...it's just funky!
I understand that the 4 runner is practically the same size as the FJ, I was responding to everyone wanting a full back door, for more room inside, for kids and stuff like that...It's a cool car and can easily do the job but don't complain about the room! If that's what you need you should buy a tahoe!
I know that jeep made a 4 door...but even with 4 doors jeeps are still smaller than FJs.
