Since there was no massive noise when it locked up, what would/could be the extent of the damage? Best and worse case scenarios if anyone could give me those.
IMHO Best is you spun a rod or crack bearing. You might be able to polish it out and go oversized. Worst is by running dry, the cylinders are welded into the bores and you'll never get them out. I lost the oil pump pickup tube on a hot rod 283 back in the day. I was doing about 130 mph when it happend. Engine welded solid in an instant. Rear wheels locked up solid and I started to swap ends. I slammed in the clutch, steered into to slide, and rolled to a stop. Pulled the engine, popped the oil pan, pulled off only a few bearing caps that weren't weled to the block, and the journals looked like 40 grit sandpaper. Pistons wern't going anywhere either. Junked the block, crank, and heads. Guess I was lucky cause my buddies told me it should of burst into flames. John

Damn! I was going maybe 30 when this happened.

Sorry to hear, man. People who have followed my recent saga, know that I feel your pain (I seized my engine on Christmas Day). But thanks to help from the mudders here, I was back on the road in no time with a new engine.....sounds like you're well on your way yourself (from your other post).

the distributor thing is an all to common thing, A local (ASE) Mechanic did the same thing on a tune up and Destroyed a 2F in an FJ55 so don't feel too bad.

Can you Get a Socket on the Crank Shaft and try turning it that way? i dont know much about the 2F's Sorry dude.. Maybe pick up that one from Mark? post up a message on the Colorado Land Cruiser Section.. YOu dont need to be a member for us to help ya out!

Have you monkeyed w/ your distributor after the engine 'seized'? I would check the dizzy and see if it is seated all the way - if you can't tell see if you can loosen and get it to seat a little farther in.

Whenever you pull a dizzy and put it back in be VERY careful to watch your oil pressure. I just dropped in a rebuilt 2F and after the first crank I didn't see oil pressure for about 5 seconds - it seemed like forever but I cut the engine. Just as I cut it I saw the pressure start to climb. Second start = good pressure.

Try to turn the crank w/ a wrench - see if you can get any movement.

If the sucker is totally locked up you won't know what the true problem is until you tear down the motor. You might just have a spun bearing. You could drop the oil pan w/ the motor still in, pull some bearing caps and take a look at the motor.

I bought a 2F which had milkshake for oil. I ended up tearing the whole thing apart before I realized it really was OK and I could have run it - but I didn't know until I really got into it.

Best of luck!
