Looking through the buy & sell for HDJ-81s, found another importer http://www.westcoastimports.biz

Any info on this importer? Seems his FAQ (http://www.westcoastimports.biz/faqq.htm) is a direct copy of the one from rising sun imports (http://risingsunimports.ca/faq.html).

He also has an HDJ-81 with 250,xxx+ Kms on it http://www.westcoastimports.biz/hdjrims.htm . Why would you import something which such high kms? Guess to keep the price low?

This 5-Speed is missing the center console part that covers the gear shift/transfer case shifter http://www.westcoastimports.biz/hdj5speed.htm .

Looks somewhat shaddy to me... what do you think?

I think the most improtant thing when finding an importer for you, is feedback and word of mouth. Also you can never ask to many questions and should never have to settle for a truck that you don't really want.

Although i'm still driving my old CDM spec, from the few deals i've done with Wayne and the amount of emails we have sent back and forth, I seriously think Luxury imports is a ver reputable improter that has an amazing amount of postive feedback.

As for importing a truck with 250,000 it seems pretty silly, as the hole reason to import some of these trucks is to find low km ones, but if the price is right not saying it is a bad truck.

Well if I had my way I'd buy that cherry 5-Spd HDJ-81 Wayne is brining in but I'm about $7k short of $32k :( Its got the exact configuration I want... 5-Speed, FR/RR Lockers, Heated Seats, and Factory Winch. Maybe I should go out and buy some lotto tickets or somethin.

I know exactly how you feel, although he is still searching for my dream rig, and I still don't have all the money, mostly because I keep spending money on my cdm spec. If it does ever appear it only takes a trip to the bank and a payment every few weeks. Then she's all mine.

Hopefully

a BJ74 with fiberglass top, 13bt FR/FF Cable lockers, factory winch you know all the pimp stuff you want. I still think the JDM specs should have come with suspention seats. I think that is the one of the coolest things about my CDM spec.

They work good and it is cool to say, yep there suspention seats.

I need to loose about 30 pounds for my suspension seats to work well :)

ahahahahahaha

thats funny, I'm a light weight, but I have noticed that heavy people don't seem to find them as usful. They must have been built for little japenise people

thats funny, still I like them, you could probably get heavier springs for them.

The next great land cruiser mod... Lift Springs for your suspension seats. So the real question will be Medium Duty, Heavy Duty... or even J-Springs! :D

That is the reason why I pruchased off Wayne at Luxury Imports. To many people selling junk out there. Just even to day, I saw a SURF found dead on the side of the road. I feel sorry for that dude...............

Any idea what happen to the Surf?

Good that you have someone like Wayne. I hear tell that he preps his units for the ignorant and that's too often the need. Fact is, these are old cars regardless that they look so good and work so well. My 80 has 220K done and as a DD runs perfectly. However I always have to be ready for that odd part to give some where at some time. It's normally minor, but a nuisance regardless. It's life with an old car.

Yep there is a guy on the island doing importing, only minutes from me and has not a clue about anything mechanical, so its kind of a crap shoot.

Another big outfit from New Zealand is opening a store in New West.

Seriously it isn't at all the life of an old car, two of my good friends at work drive new cars one a 2003 lincon LS and the other a 2002 Oldsomobile Aurora, you wouldn't believe the amount of time they spend at the dealer on warrenty work.

The Lincon under 100 000kms

Cracked manifold
rear bumper paint flaked off
headliner fell down

would not start
fuel tank droped, fuel tested, fuel pump and fuel lines replaced
there are some funky electircal gremlins too

Aurora under 80 000kms

Transmission rebuilt, for a silly sensor
new computer

recall on fuel pump, replaced
fuel lines leaking
replaced

All of this work was under warrenty, but talking to these guys and seeing the bills that the warrenty covered I couldn't afford to drive these new cars let along pay for the gas and price tag.

I drive a Land Cruiser for a reason not because I nessarly like driving a 20 year old truck, but because it is built like nothing else (other then maybe a tractor) Built not to be fast, not to be cool, not to be aero dynamic, not to be light, or really even luxurious, but it is built to LAST!

Not to many trucks out there you can buy with 250 000km's on them and start them on an entire new life of driving.

I know all you guys know this, thats why yer here. Just like sharing

cheers

I talked with that guy at westcoastimports and seriously nothing more then a used car salesman... sure didnt give me that comfort feeling... his prices are way low, and its as if hes just out there trying to hock as many rigs as he can...

There are a few JDM BJ74s with suspension seats. I happen to be one of the lucky ones. Unfortunately they come with crappy stuff like power windows, doorlocks and mirrors all of which are now happily being deleted with the install of my new take off mine truck doors.:bounce:

Somebody should start a master list of all the importers for interest sake.

Maybe I'll do that in a new post.

I will compile a list and enter it into the import FAQ thread up there in the sticky.

Bruce you can compile what you know and pm the details to me. That would be a huge help. In fact everyone who knows of one please let me know. If they come recommended I will put a recommended sign next to them. If they are unknowns I will list that as well.

Thanks, D

I know Jordan, the guy behind Westcoast. He's a good guy, but doesn't know much about the HDJ's. He's more into the older BJ4x (he did a full frame-up restoration on his BJ42).

He told me that his website is still under development and is not yet ready for primetime, since he's not advertising it yet and its not on any search engine. It looks like he's taken it off the net for now (at least I can't access it any longer).

He's got a 5 speed for sale personally, the automatic is on consignement from some guy in the Yukon.

I don't know why anyone would import an HDJ with 250,000 km, but I guess if the price is cheap enough it might be a good buy.

I've seen the 5 speed he has for sale, the wiring inside is from the amp the previous owner had in it. The center console around the gearshift is missing (looks like the previous owner had wedged an amp in there), but apart from that the truck looked brand new. Didn't look rolled-back to me. If you know how much these trucks actually cost at auction before the huge markups some guys stick on them, then the price is not out-of-line.

I took his 5 speed for a test drive, and now I'm wishing I'd bought a 5 speed instead of my auto. When you press the gas, you go immediately, instead of spinning up that big inefficient torque converter! But I've got too many goodies on my auto now to be worth changing. I'm waiting for Rodney in Australia to come up with that torque converter lockup gizmo for the mechanical A442F he keeps promising (the one he has right now only works on electronic A442's).

fair enough, I deleted what I said. He was very straightforward with me in most regards so I must have gotten the wrong impression... He seemed like a "sales guy type" to me but my guess is probably so many calls and so few biters which is understandable coming from the same place a few years ago myself..

hummm, i wonder if rating the importers is a good thing or not. some might feel they are top notch and might get their nose out of joint if not rated as such. if bad reports are posted then a pissing contest could start.

i would suggest a list of KNOWN and CONFIRMED legetimate legal importers and a list of suspected curbers. if a company sends you there business id number or city license and provincal license number for you to record privately then you could move them to the registered legal list. all businesses that operate in towns or cities must have a city license. all legal businesses in Alberta, BC, Ontario (all cities in Canada i think) must have provincial number. you can make a quick call to confirm the legality of the business.
use these for complaints or to check if the business is legit:

British Columbia: http://www.mdcbc.com/index.html
Alberta: http://www.amvic.org/main.htm
Saskatchewan: http://www.saskjustice.gov.sk.ca/legislation/summaries/motordealersact.shtml
Ontario: http://www.omvic.on.ca/omvic.htm

how does this sound?

Sounds like an importer trying to make the rules... DENIED!

I've been talking with the mods behind the scenes and it'll be something about as scientific and unbiased as a figure skating competition and I'm the Russian judge.
