Working on a build for a customer. Nice new ARB rear bumper. Jerry can holder included. Customer wants to always have gas available in Jerry can. Not something I would typically do on a daily driver but I get it.

The question becomes how do you secure the gas can, and how do you secure the cap?

Securing the gas can probably isn’t that difficult, but I am curious to know what others have done.

Pictures speak volumes.

IMO, there is no good reason to keep a full jerry can on the back of the truck for daily use.
That said, I have a 3 can carrier on the rear that I use occasionally. I have a 2" ratchet strap through the handles of the cans and secured to the carrier. I will run a bike type of cable lock through them as a deterrent, but nothing more. The caps are tightened using my cap wrench, but that is for the 20L Scepter fuel cans that I have. It would be EXTREMELY difficult to loosen them without some sort of tool, which is why I carry 2.

I agree, I don’t see a reason to have a gas can on a daily driver. But if that’s what he wants, I will deliver.

I’ve never used the scepter cans, is 20 L the standard size? If so, having the cap Wrench seems like it would be tight enough. I will look into that this evening.

For the red style gas carrier I was thinking of a locking gas cap but your solution sounds easier.

Yes, 20L is about 5 gallons. The Scepter cans are not cheap, but they weigh less than a steel can, don't corrode, and don't leak.
The cap wrenches I purchased from 2 different vendors. I think Metaltech was 1, can't remember the other. It was some guy.

I found "that guy".

I don't know of any locking caps for the NATO style gas cans. I know Wavian cans are very nice and almost never leak in my experience. They also make a locking holder for their gas cans that utilizes a pad lock. I would go in that direction if it were me

For NATO cans, some sort of bracket to prevent opening them is usually part of the tie-down dealio.

I have 3 Wavian Nato cans mounted on a small overland trailer i built about 5 years ago. As for mounts, i made some that not only mount the can, but lock them too, below are 2 photos.
