Well, the title say's it. The passenger seat has been stuck, but it's all the way back and the round, white, plastic cap is gone. Now the driver's seat is stuck all the way forward where my wife drives. I found the white plug, screwed it back in, the seat still won't move. Anyone got any ideas?

I changed my seats to cloth manual but before my cruiser had the same problem. I unbolted the seat....there are two long threaded rods on the bottom... a pair of vice grips used on each.....when you are done adjusting count the threads to make sure things are even...bolt everything back in. I'm sure this method will ruin your seat for good. My new seats go so far back they almost touch the rear seat....never had the experience of being able to put a seat too far back!

Thanks for the reply, but changing to manual seats is not an option right now. We are leaving for Telluride Friday and as it sits right now, no one can drive it but my wife. This has to have happened to someone else.........come on I need some help people!

The same thing happened to mine. When I tore it apart I found a nylon gear all chewed up. That white cap keeps a gear centered and when it falls out, it chews up the nylon gear.

There's no finalization in any of these threads I seached. Can the part be bought FOR sure.............does CDan have it? Someone was talking about fabbing some up, nothing ever came of that either. The dealership wants $1800 to fix the drivers seat ONLY. Obviously I'm not going that route, but I have to figure something out by Friday.:frown:

I used a socket and long extension to manually move the seat back. If you raise the seat all the way up and take off the front cover by removing two screws, you will be able to access the seats screw tracks. Put a socket on the nut and alternate between the two seat tracks to move it back. At least you will be able to get in the LC.

Yikes! This just happened last weekend to my PS. Can't get that little white cap completely screwed back in w/o removing the seat.

If I do that, reinstall the cap and make sure everything is aligned, is that likely to fix this?

when I first got mine the car wash moved the seat all the way forward to vacume and when I tried to get back in, I couldn't get the seat to move back. just wouldn't do anything when I pushed the control back. Fought it for quiet awhile with the car wash manager standing there telling me they didn't do anything to it. I said, "I drove it in here, I can't get my body behind the wheel now, obvioulsy you did something!" Finally while playing around with the adjusting switches I raised the seat height and then it would move back. somehow the combination of all the way forward and all the way down it got stuck in the gear somehow. No problems since.

worth a try

try raising it then back.

This is the part the part that houses the nylon gear that got stripped. Sorry I dont have a part number.

Haines is RIGHT. That is the part. I replaced one on the pass side last year, and just did the drivers side last week. The part is called a "housing assembly" when you go to the dealer. It costs about $85. You can get by by just removing the front 2 seat cushion bolts and the front plastic protector. Use a wrench or similar to wedge the loose seat cover up and out of the way to remove the housing assembly. Good Luck

I had the same problem a month or two ago. I found that if I hold the plastic cap in place and push onto the screw (or what ever it is) it would hold and allow the seat to go back. If I let go, it just pops off. This obviously isn't a good long term solution but it got the seat back (PS) so that I could replace the AC expansion valve.

You need to print this thread out then and keep it handy. That's how mine started, then the round thingy fell out and it would not work whether it was in or not. I'm picking up this mysterious part pictured above tomorrow...I'll post back with the part number. Somebody needs to sticky this thread also as it seem's a solution has finally been found.

please show us what "cap""

CDan told me
You will need a new gear box-thingy. I stock them, they list for $89.71 and your cost would be $67.28.

I replaced mine and buggered up the new one because I was in a hurry. The gear box shown further up in the thread comes with the cap installed. My seat moves (makes a clunking noise) for now and when I eat up this gear box I will replace it again but be more careful.

I recommend removing the seat and using some homemade jumper leads to supply power to the seat when you have it off. After you have everything lined up, test it. Be careful not to rush yourself or you can easily strip that gear again.

I have thought about finding someone that can fab that gear (because it can be popped out) so that I can just replace that when this unit fails (fab out of a harder more durable nylon/plastic).

Oh...I am on a tangent...

I had an issue with mine. PO said that one switch didn't work. It turned out to be the front part of the seat wouldn't go up and down. This was my fix. Might be worth a shot. Took the 4 bolts holding the seat out. Lifted up the seat towards the back so I could inspect. I thought it would have been the switch. But when I moved the switch up and down I could fintly hear the motor try to move. I figured the motor was bad or the mechanisim. I decided I'd see if it had frozen. Took a small pair of lock pliers and manually turned the threaded rod. It was stuck at first. But I finally got it to turn a little bit. And bam! It now works. Put lithium grease on all the threaded rods. And now all is fine. Worth a shot. Only 5 min to do and a whole lot easier than taking it apart. I think the problem was it was stuck in it's furthest setting and jammed where the threaded rod meets. Only needed a little help to get unstuck.

Also had the plug fall out on the passengers side. Put it in and used some blue locktite on it.

Tried screwing mine back in with some blue loctite and it won't hold. If I put my finger on it it pops out if I put the seat all the way back and then when I move it forward it pops back in some.

I'm afraid to screw it in to far or to strip the threads. Have I just not screwed it in far enough? Should the cap 'stop' if I screw it in far enough?

Nakman is working on fabricating the white cap. It sounds like he might also do the gear if he finds enough interest.

Meanwhile, the part number for the gear housing subassembly (from Lexus) is 72206-30040. I decided not to get one yet because I could still get my seat to operate properly when I put my neighbor's white cap in (both my seats have lost the cap).

Good luck.

thanks - I've been following this thread as well.
