Seat Bracket Reversal: work for a '71?

I think when I viewed the seat bracket reversal procedure, (for more driver legroom) they said it was applicable to '73 and up. Other threads say any '70's FJ.

Mine's a '71 with the bench passenger seat (for two, with the little middle seat back), and the driver seat seperate. Hinged seat mount over the integral toolbox attached to the floor.

Will that procedure work for mine?

Probably not - at least, I couldn't figure out a way to get more legroom
in my 1972 with the stock bench seat. So I ended up replacing the stock
seat with a pair of bucket seats out of a 90's Civic - $50 for the pair
at the junkyard.
