So my buckle stopped releasing today. I figured "well hell Im going to need a new buckle, might as well bust this one open to free myself." I took it apart to find out that the buckle has been broken for quite a while. The PO placed a penny inside of the button so that it made contact with the buckle release. With the plastic housing off, I can release the buckle easily and it seems just as strong. So should I replace the buckle or save my money for more important stuff like my soon to be break job?

Replace it. Seat belts are like helmets. You don't have the luxury of testing. If you are worried about $$ consider the difference between the buckle and the cost of 50 stitches in your forehead.

it'll cost you only a few bucks from a parts-truck. and it will take 2 minutes to install.
