Hey everyone -

It was suggested to me by a friend on the forum to make a post that was more local since the folks in the North State Cruisers section of the site would be of great help.
My wife and I have been on the hunt for an FJ40 for the better part of a year now. I joined Mud back in May in hopes of getting our search on the right track, but we didn't really have much luck. We also had a couple of financial setbacks that caused us to put our search on hold. Anyway, long story short, we are back on the hunt now!

The vehicle would mainly be used for my wife and I to enjoy around town, taking to meets, light off-roading, packing up our two dogs and some fishing gear up and taking a day trip - That kind of thing.

What we are hoping to find:

- 1975+ FJ40 that hasn't been completely molested
- Definitely want something that has the original 2F
- Hopefully something that runs and drives
- Something that needs some work is perfectly okay. I am definitely Not looking for someone else's half assembled project
- Don't really have a huge preference on color. Factory paint and patina are great
- Prefer hard top/ambulance doors
- I know that surface rust is pretty much a given - Just not looking for something with major rust issues

I am sure I forgot some things, but that hit most of the big stuff that I really care about. Please let me know if any of you have any information, tips, etc. As far as my price range, I will just leave that blank and see what pops up...unless you all think that is a bad idea lol

Thank you in advance

-Bryson

Welcome

I’m selling a 1971 Factory Soft Top. Very straight, very solid, rust free and well documented rig. Records dating back to 98. I know you said you’re looking for a 75+ but thought I’d throw it out there. I’ve come to prefer early 40s more than later ones, especially unmolsted and uncut rigs. I have a Best Top Tiger Top as well a a set of full soft doors and soft half doors. DM if you’re interested

I've seen this rig and is in very good condition. Craig is a great guy to do business with.

Great looking rig! Definitely something to keep in mind for sure. I did mean to specify in my post that I am also partial to hard top/ambulance doors. Definitely not opposed to the soft top though. I edited my original post. Sending you a PM now - thanks!

Giving a price range you'd like to be in, imho, is helpful. You laid out your expectations, but if you say your budget is $5k vs $15k makes all the difference....

do you want uncut rear fenders? That would be a deal breaker for me for example.

Not that many out there that have an unmolested body.

price range?

Yeah personally I'd like the vehicle to have uncut rear fenders. Honestly, the price range question is a little hard for me simply because im not even exactly 100% sure what the pricing on a vehicle in the condition I listed should be. There is a ton of misinformation on the internet and a lot of super ridiculously high prices out there. It really all just depends on the truck - Hopefully this answer makes some shred of sense lol

I'd figure out your budget first, figuring 2-3k for base-lining, quite possibly new tires, and unforseen issues, that they all will have.

then make a list of super important to less important things you want, and then search Clist, bring a trailer, here, barnfinds, and ebay....and have cash in hand....those super high asking prices are no where near selling prices.

Rear fenders are cut, but seems to be in decent shape overall. What do you guys think? Worth even exploring?
FJ40 Toyota Landcruiser

The guy texted me like 15 pics and the only real issue that I can see so far is a rusty passenger floor pan. I'll see if I can get more pics from him

Thats an oddball for sure. Wouldnt be on my list at that asking price.
