Ok guys and gals we all know how to search when something breaks but I wanted to share mine because knowing in advance could save you some trouble. Well a few weeks ago I slid my PS seat full forward to get some wood in the 80 and sure enough, the seat was stuck and would not move back. One of the seat screws would turn a little bit but bind almost instantly. So after a quick search I found that the sweet little nylon screw in the picture had popped out. The repair is simple with the exception of me having to remove the seat. One thing to remember is that you don't want to over tighten as it will keep the seat from moving as well.

Ok so the thing that makes this post different is that anyone with an 80 (not sure if this part is there on the hundy's) is that most of the times when these pop out you don't even realize what they are. The thing I noticed was how many people threw them away or scooped them up with a vacuum at a car wash or your shop vac. They are located at the front of the seat bracket by the center console. I found my nylon screw at the rear of the seat by the rear door. No where near where you would have thought it would have ended up. Had I not know what to look for it could have ended up in the trash and I only know of one place to order them from.

So if you own an 80 you might want to make sure yours have not backed out and now if you see one of these you will save yourself some trouble. Hope this helps someone down the line.

I've had to put them back in on both sides. I said to myself "Really, that's the easiest fix to what seemed like disaster!"

The threads on mine (drivers side) aren't viable anymore. The damn thing pops out unless I put a finger over it as I move the seat. Gonna try some teflon tape next time I get in it. Eric, what's your source for new ones, Toyota? Got a part #?

Ever notice how it never pops out when moving the seat forward?

he sells both the end cap screws and the internal gears. both of which sitting on the shelf here

John.... you may try and super glue your stripped cap in at the right depth
alex glued his in years ago and it works great still.
also if in a pinch you can push the cap in (not with your finger!) and operate the seat to desired place

or if your cheap or in a rush and gotta get some more leg room, you can remove the front plastic cover and operate both rail gears with two large flatblade screwdrivers to push it back a bit

Yep, this is supposed to be my next 80 related task, so says the boss.

She caught on a while ago that the seat broke I the perfect position for me to drive, where she can't.

I replaced the d.s. gear and caps in Emma's 80 - which is no "quick" task, especially if you have Landtanks seat extenders. Word to the wise, the gears are pressed on a splined screw rod from OE, and were pretty tough to get off. The replacement went on waaaaaay easier. That should have been a clue - the gears stripped on the rod (not the gear teeth, but the press fit between the gear hub and rod) almost immediately after I installed the seats back in the truck. I'm not sure if I got a bad gear, or if his product is made a little too large for a good press fit, but if I were going to do it again, I'd certainly use some epoxy on that mechanical joint.

Thanks man. On a smart phone it is just a pain for all the searching.
