When I search by "Username" & choose "Find posts by user" it brings up "Threads started by user" only. I switch back & forth but it will only bring up "Threads started by user". Is this just a problem on my end or is it happening to everyone?
Thanks.

I do not have that issue.
What OS and browser are you using?

I have a Search Engine question - Win 7 and IE 9
When I search and try to Sort Results By - Last Posting Date - Descending Order, I get the results in a random order.
Thsi occurs when I am searching for posts by me (so I can see the latest updates to threads that I have posted in).
Any advice?

Thanks for responding Pablo. I'm running Win7 & IE-10 and have the same issues on two other PCs running XP pro & IE-8. All are the latest version for the OS.

I don't have your issues though. I search for posts in your name in the 40/55 forum and I get 58 posts all started by you. I alternate from "descending" to "ascending" and they arrange in order correctly. But,, if I alternate between "posts by user" and "threads started by user" I keep getting the same 58 posts started by you. For me it's only the 8 threads that I have started. I can't bring up posts I've made in threads started by others. I can't bring up posts by anyone made in threads started by someone else.

Identical issues on three different machines. It's frustrating as I use the search "a lot". That's why I've only ever started 8 threads in the 40/55 forum. I almost always get my answers by searching.

Could someone please do an advanced search in my name "Steamer" in the 40/55 forum & see if you can bring up all my posts & not just the 8 threads started by me.

Thanks.

It's strange that I can only get my 8 posts but you can get them all. It's always worked before and it just started doing this a few days ago. I'll have to try doing it logged on at a different location on a different IP.

Thanks.

Sorry, have been offline since Monday...no cell/net on the Rubicon Trail :)

The Search on 'MUD is highly customized...guessing there is a switch somewheres that can be adjusted, will contact my sysadmin when I'm home so we can troubleshoot :)

Thanks Woody for looking into it. I just discovered that if I log out the search engine works perfect. It's when I'm logged in that I cannot pull up "posts by user" & only get "threads started by user" even after "resetting fields". Oh well, no rush. I can log out & get what I need so when ever you get to it will be fine. Thanks & enjoy the wheeling.

Thanks Woody - I am sure Rubicon was epic!
Does my question make sense?

Cheaters shortcut:

While reading a thread...
1> single click a username
2> from the dropdown box, select View Public Profile
3> from the profile, select Statistics
4> choose "find all posts" or "find all started"

Steamer, it shows 219 posts and 14 started threads for your username :)

after 2000+ miles of driving in 2 days, that's all the thinking I can muster...lol

BTW: there are also TIME limits within search...honestly, Searching 8m posts over 10+ years would kill the server every time it was generated ...as a result, there are limits to how far back it will go unless you also run Advanced Search and work within specific dates.

Search is a server killer, hence the extensive customization.

Thanks Woody!
I always use the Advanced Search, now if I set "Find Posts From" to Yesterday and Newer, it looks like it returns the Results in Descending Order by Last Posting Date like I wanted...

Woody. The "Cheaters Shortcut" works fine although it's not as convenient since it lists every single post I've ever made. The Advanced Search will list the threads I've posted in if I select "Posts by User". That is when it's working. It's just so weird that it works for others and will now only work for me if I log out.

my "guess" is you've got a cookie set on your computer that is messing up search....why doesn't make sense tho...

try a different browser...Chrome is all I use anymore, other than testing :)

I spoke too soon.
Advanced Search (as described above) not returning results in chronological order...

Hey pablo-

It's been like that for about a year I think, maybe longer. They are relatively close in time though, so it's not too difficult to find what you want.
