A fellow club member has some friends living in Cambodia that want to buy a troopie and a pickup. They don't know much about driving off-road, recovery, or mechanical fixes. They're in a mountainous area and the tracks get sloppy during the wet seasons. It could work out that he will head over this winter to teach them driving and recovery techniques, and take them some tools and equipment.

Onto my questions. I've been looking at dealer sites around the world and have come to the conclusion that, at least in some markets, lockers are available for the 78/79 series but winches don't seem to be? (ala BJ74s with PTOs seen on the luxuryimports site).

Does anyone have information about options available in the SE Asia market? These people don't know what questions to ask the dealer they've found. We're thinking of taking a winch over to them, but it would be nice if there was a simpler option for them.

Thanks for any info!

Ken I looked through my option list for 78/79 series and it makes no mention of the factory winch.
They still have the PTO on the t/case for running hydraulic pumps and stuff but its probably easier to put on an aftermarket electric winch.Ive heard the factory Toyota winches are good but slow.

Lockers are available on the aussie 78/79 series(the 79 is the cab chassis model)

From what I can see, by the time the 78/79 series became available, Toyota no longer sold winches for their non-JDM vehicles. In fact the Aussie brochures (which most closely follow the general market vehicles) feature Warns and Superwinch electrics in their accessories section.

The Japan market brochures still feature their own electric winches even into the 2000 model year, but there are some options not sold outside of Japan such as electric locking hubs.

I have no idea what is available in Cambodia, but I'd guess the Asian market tends to follow the general markets line up than the Japan market vehicles.
