Hey all,

As requested, here are some pics of my ScanGauge II install.

If you are not familiar, you can research the ScanGauge II here.
http://www.scangauge.com/

I started with this kit from eBay which includes the ScanGauge as well as the BlendMount for mounting above your rearview mirror.

I ran an ethernet cable from the back of the unit and pushed it up along the upper lining and the windshield. I then ran it down the A-piller, making sure to stay away from the airbag systems. Also, if you use cable ties, do not crimp against the washer fluid hose to the rear. To remove the A-piller cover, take off the 2 caps on the handle and then remove the bolts. Then pop the cover off.

I used the female-female junction and placed it in the lower A-piller next to the front right speaker where the windshield meets with the dash.

Then, starting from the ODB-II connector, route the ODB-II cable up and around the engine and gas talk release levers. If you pull the rubber molding back a bit, you can pop off that side panel where the door rests. Route the cable up and connect it to the ethernet splitter.

I had to do some bending of the BlendMount to get the unit to sit right against the rearview mirror. My problem was that I needed to bend the mirror back far enough that the mirror would be at the correct angle. Being 6" 1", this needs to be almost flush with the windshield, thus not allowing much room for the mount. The BlendMount comes with varying length posts, and I had to use the shortest one so it would allow the rearview mirror's post to lift up high.

Anyways, I bent it and it's up there and looks good.

If you have any questions, you can ask. I suck at writing this stuff down and I'm tired. :cheers:

PS. I have not played around with the XGauge commands, which I need to find time to do.

I set the color to Blue HIGH for the pics, but I usually leave it on Red LOW so it's not so bright.

More pics. Sorry about the cell phone quality and it's dark out.

And it looks a bit dirty, but that's just because I actually use my LC believe it or not. :flipoff2:

Oh, and the unit is straight and my radar detector is perfectly level, the pics just look funny :D

Great question, lol. I'm not too sure myself. It has a few gauges, but not as many as I had hoped.

There is a system called XGauges which lets you program in custom gauges from the ODB-II data, but I haven't spent any time looking into it. For most vehicles, others have already figured out the codes to use, but obviously such isn't the case with the LC.

So for now, it tells me things like the IAT, I-MPG, MPH, etc....pointless, I know.

Oh, and the trip computer is cool, but you have to remember to set it everytime when you fillup. I forget all the time so that's pointless (not the gauge's fault though). What's funny is it says I've used hundreds of gallons but has yet to warn me of low fuel. It knows my correct tank size too. I've been too busy to play around with it more.

It does trip functions like, "I wonder how much I've spent on gas while driving today?", or "did I really just hit 130MPH? ...nope...just 127"

Oh, and it say's I have 1000+ HP when accelerating and 9999MPG when coasting downhill. Boy I wish both were true! I'm going to play around with it some more, but everything is set correctly as far as I can tell.

And why do you care what it does? You should have one just 'cuz it looks cool! :flipoff2:

Notice now how all the ad's at the top of this site are for the ScanGauge? LOL...talk about keyword advertising!

YOU'VE GOT TO GET ONE! It is one of the coolest little gadgets I've had for any vehicle.

I just velcroed mine on the steering column for now, but so cool! I hit 360 HP today gunning it on the HWY.

So yours accurately measures HP? How does it know HP from just telling it you have a 5.7L engine?

I had to program it in, but it takes a bunch of measurements, and gives you real time reading. It is one of the added Xgauge options.

Yup, I remember now. I did this per the manual, but I'm still getting crazy readings. I've double checked the settings too. If I go WOT, I pull 1500+ HP....Yeah, I wish!!!! Maybe my LC is just that freakn' fast! :hillbilly:

Another cool XGauge feature is to use a trip function as a gauge.

See page 30:
http://www.scangauge.com/support/pdfs/SGMan5_0.pdf

To get a Distance to Empty (DTE) gauge, use these settings:

TXD = 44
RXF = 8

If you wanted to show it in terms of Fuel Remaining (FR), set:
TXD = 24
RXF = 8

I think distance is a more practical application than fuel level, but the options are all there!

I really wish though that Totota had some special codes like tranny temp, coolent, etc.

I would also like a fuel gauge...need to get that one figured out.

The peer preasure!!!!!!

Fine I ordered one! Happy now?!?!??!?

Thanks...couldn't find that one last night...I was going through a bunch for like and hour, filled up and started from the beginning and everything. I was thinking it would be nice to have the DTE as one of the gauges.

LOL! Did you get the BlendMount from eBay? Get it...

And an FYI: Rumor has it that that ScanGauge is developing XGauge Toyota specific codes, like they already have for FORD, GM, and some electric models.

Can't wait to get temps from all the sensors!!

Yeah I ordered that kit from ebay.

K, if I recall correctly, you are also 6' + right? If you just install it the way it was designed, the mirror will not bend up far enough to get a good view out the rear (I'm OCD about rear-view mirrors -- they must be perfect!) I forgot which height post adjustment I used, but compare it to the pics. You will need to bend the plate in the same fashion (two steel plates compressing from both sides and a few c-clamps worked for me). When you tighten the ring around the rear view mirror post, leave it a bit loose and let it slide into position. Then tighten it down when you have the mirror set in the best position.

Also, my SCII is facing almost straight (parallel with the overhead console) while the mirror is turned slightly towards me. This provides enough room (barely) for the SCII to sit above as you can see in the pics. If I was 6' 3"+, this position wouldn't work and I would have to mount it below.

I am 5'11" . I will have to re-read this when I get mine.

I tried putting mine above the rearview mirror...and there is not enough room. Is your seat way down? I'm 6'0", but like to sit up as high as I can, helps with my messed up back. I'm wondering if my seating position is limiting me putting the scangauge above the rearview mirror.

Can you use the blendmount to install it below the rearview mirror?

I'm not too sure where my seat is (I'd have to check), but I believe it is low to middle. Not high.

You are correct that it would be a problem if your seat was high. You can tell just by where you normally keep your mirror just see if it would fit up there.

I do not know for sure, but I really don't see why the blendmount would not work for mounting under the mirror. It says here that:
eBay Motors: BlendMount Custom Mount for ScanGauge II (ScanGuage) (item 180318689126 end time Jan-15-09 12:34:56 PST)

"The ScanGaugeII Accessory needs 1.5 inches of clearance above your RVM (note: you may be able to mount your SGii BELOW your mirror)"

Spending 45 bucks just for the mount by itself may seem excessive. You COULD make this yourself from parts, the kit just makes it easy. You probably wouldn't even have to bend the plate.
I really do like the rear view mirror location. I thought about mounting it under the info screen on the steering wheel, but decided against it once I found the blendmount. IDK, play around with it a bit, but as you can see I like clean installs that 'almost' look factory.

If you have the STI as well, I will take pics of my remote wire setup. Basically, picture this: I took one of the blanks to the right of the steering wheel and mounted a mute button, red power light and blue alert light. I also mounted the speaker with 3M adhesive to the side of the fuse box way high under the dash.

Here's the wire kit I used:
BEL BELTRONICS RADAR CORD SMART MUTE Pro RX65 STi 995 - eBay (item 350101049177 end time Jan-20-09 09:18:03 PST)

Make sure you tell him that you want BOTH the red and blue LED. You can also get the mini-add-a-fuse tap, but I already had an ADD-A-CIRCUIT from pepboys that looks like this:

Hope this info helps for clean installs!

For the ULTIMATE clean install you need to go to :

West Mountain Radio - RIGrunner Description

and order a rig runner.

Makes installing accessories SOOO much easier and cleaner. You will also want to get:

West Mountain Radio - Automatic Power Off Switch from PowerWerx

So that the accessory fuse block shuts off after you turn the LC off.

No more searching for open fuses, accessory on power wires, grounding spaces, etc.

It is ESSENTIAL in EVERY auto I have.
