My friend wanted somethin of mine and wanted to do a v8 conversion on my 62 in return. I have seen an adapter that adapts a sbc to my auto, is there an adapter that uses a v8 with tranny to the 62 transfercase?

Yep and Yep! Mark's adapter adapts the A440 (your auto) to a SBC. The better way in my opinion is to go with a 700r4 or 4l60e or even a 4l80e behind the SBC to the split transfer case. www.advanceadapter.com will have all the specs of what you are looking for. Downey off road sells a slightly different adapter that does the same thing.

dont know much bout tranny's , what can I get those trannys out of?

700R4 is a common 1987 until mid 90's 4-speed OD auto from GM trucks...believe you want the 89-newer ones. 4L60E is the later electronic lockup version, believe that started in 1992 on some GM vehicles. 4L80E is the newest HD version. You'd want one from 1999-older for any of these tho....5.0 or 5.7 motor stuff, the bellhousing pattern for the 5.3 and 6.0 motors is not the same.

I have the Marks adapter for the SBC to the A440F if you are interested. I used it in a 91 FJ80 for about a year. I will take 250 for it. I paid 600+shipping.
If you use the 4L60E, make sure to buy the engine and tranny as a unit with the ECU, because the tranny is electronically controlled. The 700 can be modified to run with no electronics if needed.

I wish I could get the adapter but my pockets are empty. Im just doin my homework for now, If my friend does it he will supply everything. If I do it, ill have to wait for a while. Ill just have to wait and see thanks ..

btw, some of these trans are for 2wd? like from a camaro? I would be lookin for a non efi motor because Im not a mechanic and I want somethin that could run and be easy and inexpnsve to fix.

sorry guys, im a newbie. Are you sayin that I get a 2wd tranny and adapt it to my trnsfrcase or do i get a 4wd tranny and take out the tcase and use my 62 case? just wonderin, all of these v8 convrsions are legal(smog)?

smog legality means you are using a motor of the same or newer year as your rig and that motor has 100% of it's smog gear intact, including factory cats.

Varies a great deal by state tho...

My 1991 Chev van 350 TBI doner motor didn't have an air pump or cats....makes for a much easier conversion than many...

I realize this is an old post, but I was curious what model chevy van your donor vehicle was. I would like to avoid air pump and cat, if possible.
