It's been a good long while since I put one of these beasts together. I remember the gasket hole being the same profile as the cylinder, ie round.

Is this something new in FelPro head gasket technology?

Seems like it will cause some sort of unusual pocket of combustion.....

The openings are made this way to accomodate the valve pockets in the heads. It is nothing to worry about and will cause no ill effects. If you want you can go to the federal mogul web site and it has a good tech article concerning head gaskets.

Yeah I got too excited too soon. Turned over the heads to see the shape matches.....

No problem. At least this shows that you are paying attention to things. :)
