PO had removed the EGR valve on my 350 SBC intake manifold and blocked it off with ATV sealant and a piece of metal bolting it down using the existing holes. This can't be good. Do I need an intake without the EGR valve?

I blocked mine off. You don't need it unless you have an emissons standard you are trying to get by. An EGR pumps exahust gas back into your engine, this was introduced a long time ago. Ask around, you will probably hear both sides good and bad about the EGR. However if you have on installed to the intake like a vacum it will rob your engine of power output.

This is only my opion, and have had a few 4x4's with SBC and I removed and blocked the EGR on all of them and never had a problem with overheating and our power loss due to the EGR missing.
