Anyone up to doing the Sawmill Trail up to Toro Peak in the next few days. I got to rigs that want to go. One locker is recommended because of some loose, steep areas.

Mike,

Thats a fun trail.
I may be up for a run as early as Monday or Tuesday. Got company coming over tonight so tommorow will not work.

Monday would be good for me.

I was thinking of leaving the Fallbrook area around 8 with JD. Have breakfast in Anza. Give me a call, Tim.

Good Times in the snow. The little FJ cruiser was unstopable.

Cool nearby trail. I had to see off the in-laws yesterday, or I would have gone. I read about this trail from some mtn biking sites. Do you head up to Santa Rosa Mtn or Toro Peak, or do you climb up from Sugar Loaf? Or can you loop it? Thx!

We started from Pinyon Pines - The sawmill trailhead. It does top out at the top of Santa Rosa .We had to turn back because the snow was too deep and it was icy and slick. A couple of the turns were dicy with off-camber drop offs that added major pucker factor.

The picture of me above is about where we called it quits. The 60 and my 40 were having traction issues, but the FJ cruiser was able to get a little farther up the trail after I flattened some snow down. I think we could have made it all the way- but it would have been quite a chore. Next time I will run my 33-9.5's they seem to get me a lot farther in the snow than the 11.5's.

I also did not want to ride home after dark with no top. It was brisk ride up.

thx for info Tim. That must have been chilly willy topless...brave Mohican. Did you bring any of that honey wild turkey to warm up? It does the trick! I'm also thinking of 255/80s vs 285/70s when I upsize my tires next year. With an aggressive tread, that should be versatile enough for me.

I may make the effort up to the snow line on NY Day just for the fun of it. Should be a nice day. I may try the Santa Rosa truck trail for another view of the hill too.

Should be nice on New Years. Take some pictures and I would not run the east side trail alone. It's a long walk down for help if you get stuck.

It was a learning experience for me. The 35" x 12.5" were the wrong tires and I ended up being the weak link. Next time I will run the 33" x 10.5 mudders off the fj45. The tires plus the weight of the 60 had me sliding out of control a few times where I was just glad to be headed down and on dirt later in the day. We could have made it but with all the winching, Tim is right, it would have been all day.

Still beats a day at work.

Nice, I just went and checked it out on Google Maps. I have yet to do any wheeling up that way but I am sure once my buddy who just bought a home in Murrieta gets his Cruiser we will be hitting this trail up.

Some fun wheeling closer in- backside of Vail Lake and the surrounding hills. Only minutes from town
