Tonto Recreation Alliance (TRAL) is going to inspect FR27, AKA the back road to Mt. Ord, and possibly some other routes in the area. Chad from the Forest Service will likely ride along. Also, we have arranged to tour the fire lookout tower, and as on most TRAL runs TRAL will provide lunch (see below).

I know that Copper State Cruisers has expressed interest in this trail, so we are extending this special invitation for you to join us. (Almost all of our runs are open to the public, so feel free to join us on any run we post in our forum!) We will need to limit participation to 20 vehicles, so reply to this thread ASAP if you want to come along. There's no limit to how many people are in each vehicle. Registration is first-come, first-served, with the timestamp of your post determining your place in line. This is cross-posted on the TRAL Upcoming Events forum so don't rely on the number of replies to this thread. I will update the registration numbers below as often as possible, but don't dilly dally!

Vehicles registered as of 9-24-19 at 12:00PM: 6

FR27 has sections of shelf road, and from memory is not particularly challenging, but at our last inspection we rated it as a Modified 4WD trail, meaning a lift and larger tires are highly recommended, and one or two lockers might come in handy. FR626, the main access road, is stocker friendly if you would like to come up just for lunch and/or the tower tour. I don't know exactly what time we'll be rolling up on the tower, likely early afternoon.

Meeting time and place-
8AM at the Baja Gas Station near Ft. McDowell 10180 N Fort McDowell Rd, Fort McDowell, AZ 85264

Lunch will be provided for folks who let us know they're coming at least 24 hours before the event start time. Either reply to this thread, or TRAL members can register on the TRAL Event Calendar. Please let us know if you plan on bringing guests. Look for the option to add a note if you register on the calendar.

Keep an eye on this thread for the latest updates.

Thanks for the CSC invite. Still hoping for a proper TRAL/CSC introduction like we talked about in the past.

FWIW - Ran it a month ago, the off-cambers sections are not as bad as before but much more rutting and erosion than the past. Also no landscaping required.

Richard and I have been waiting for an outdoor CSC meeting to attend, didn't feel comfortable addressing a group indoors. Thanks for the update on the trail.

Not to worry we dont lock the doors:grinpimp:

sounds interesting what would be the easiest way to get there in a somewhat stock 69 fj40 (top speed 55-60mph)

If you're concerned about getting left behind, the back road starts here, you could leave Baja a bit early if you like. Or don't bother- we won't be in a huge rush, it's not all that far, and we'll have an air-down session when we get there so everyone will have time to group up before we go on.

sign me up but I am a definite maybe. I plan on camping somewhere the night before so I can be to the meeting spot at 8. All pending on what the boss says, so far she hasn't said anything. I'll know more as it gets closer.

@-Spike- thank you for the invite. If you don’t mind I will also mention this run at our club meeting next Friday.

For CSC members who want to get out on the trail next Saturday with TRaL, this is a good opportunity to do a mild day run and escape the valley heat for a few hours.

Please do mention it! Or... is the meeting back at Sonic? I was thinking of taking Phil up on his offer to come by and talk a bit about TRAL. No soapbox needed, just figured to chat with folks. Would that be OK?

We will be at Sonic next Friday, come chat with us.

I would love to go as this isn't too far from the house, but I'll be out of town this weekend it is my daughter's bday.

I don't think the run is on next Saturday.
