As part of my efforts in being a supporting vendor of Solid Axle Summit I do a sale in the middle of July every year to help other 60 Series owners gear up (ok I have a few 40 & 55 things too, but mostly 60 stuff). We're all constantly working on our trucks, getting them ready, and right now is the final push.

My Summer Adventure Sale goes through this coming Monday at 11:59PM MST. Summer Adventure sale ... SAS. Solid Axle Summit. Get it? I like to say whether you're hitting a difficult trail or just going on a Sunday evening ice cream run, you can get a nice little mid-summer discount on parts.

15% off everything at checkout with the code "20SAS24". <---LINK

We support any of you guys that help keep our Cruisers on the road and trails. Especially the ones that support our raffle. If you need something for your Cruiser before or after SAS reach out to them. They are listed on post 2 of page one of this thread.
We proudly support those that make each year a success.

I bought a new pickup end of April. It has 2750 miles on it, and 2-1/2 months old.

The AC stopped working, battery was dead yesterday morning, it's charging at 13.5V, and there is a hot brake smell with excessive brake dust on the front wheels.

Parts don't exist.

Hopefully I can figure something out with Ford. Otherwise Chris and I are potentially driving two pieces of crap a third of the way across the continent.

Or, if it dogs us somewhere, we just call a wrecker, unload and drive the actual reliable vehicles the rest of the way.
Shoulda got a heavy Chevy or a Dynamite Dodge. Stay away from the F*****g Fords. In all seriousness though, once you get into Kansas, I can send Dan after you.

Just drive the pieces of crap. It's part of the adventure.

Hey folks. If this isn’t allowed, let me know. But….

I have a brand new set of Hellfire knuckles for sale. I’d be glad to bring them to SAS8 with a deposit. My ridiculous 40 rebuild has hit me hard, and need some funds to keep going. Let me know via PM if you’re interested.

Thank you.
Joe.

Just drive the cruisers dude. Towing is lame! :flipoff2:

Might come down to that.

It'd mean another trip out there probably. I'd have to run the 40 back home towing the camp trailer. I dont think the mini/Hilux would be up to 2 guys, dog, trailer, and a full flatbed full of stuff.

Adds about 2 hours on the two lanes.
We could switch vehicles in the hot areas so there's some relief with AC

Them back to Proffit for paint work with the 40 on the goose, once the pickup situation is sorted.

This 100%

My 6.7 cummins got a new clutch recently (valair quiet dual disk and flywheel/upgraded hydraulics) and the place that did it had 1-2 dodge's in for service on the lot, a handful of GM's and a freakin lot full of busted fords waiting to be fixed

Thankful…keeps us in business 😂😂

My 5.9 was a great engine in an okay wrapper.
My 6.7 was disappointing in a excellent wrapper that wore very poorly. I loved that interior, but it did not hold up well.

I've owned good Ford's, bad Ford's. Good Chevrolet's, bad Chevrolet's. I've owned good Mopar and bad Mopar.

It's luck of the draw. Which is baffling to me. You'd think the process would be absolutely dialed

10 years on my RAM wrapped cummins 6.7 and few issues other than brake backings that are seemingly made of chinesium and dissolve here in the NE and require replacement when they start dragging on rotors.....really annoying.....re-pucked several times over the years......and recently an EGR bypass valve which looks like its being covered under extended warranty/recall

I can get 21+ MPG unloaded on highway and 15-16 loaded no matter what is attached....and with a gooseneck it flies down the highway at 65-75 like there's nothing behind me.

I'd like to take an extended vaca in 2 years and drag a 40 out to SAS and also head north to SD/WY/MT as part of the trip.....moving back out west is a someday possibility

My 18 left my possession at 11.3mpg lifetime average. Also really gutless and you had to turn the screws to it to stay in the power. My 01, (with programming and bolt ons) would light at 800rpm and pull until the crank would go clink. I f'd up and passed something one day and had it mashed in 4th to 4500rpm. I was worried it was going to pitch parts. There's some number in that ballpark where a 6bt will mathematically develope a harmonic and rip itself apart. It rarely saw much over 3200rpm though. Just shift and let it rip.

My pickups don't get driven much without something on the ball. Typically a 7500# enclosed. Occasionally a 15.5k goose flatbed.

I drove my 18 on 2 lanes to South Dakota with the intent of getting good mileage, I got 21½mpg. I used the accelerator like my testes were under it. That's rough. My 01' would've been conservatively 25-27mpg driving normally. I drove the 01' empty to South Carolina to get a trailer one time. Cruise set at 72mph the whole way and pulled 26 on a tank. I don't know what the lifetime average of that pickup was, I didn't keep that tight of data on it, and it didn't track that itself like the new ones do.

That 01 was the best vehicle I've ever owned. Good power, economy, held up acceptably well to wear and corrosion.
Injection pump was a garbage design though. Super sensitive to fuel pressure and lubricity was an issue when they dumped the sulphur out of the fuel. The CP3 is a far better design mechanically.

I had an S10 that couldn't be killed, and an F150 that would've lived a long happy life in a war zone as well.

Like I said. Luck of the draw. I don't buy into the brand loyal BS. Most people see what they see to validate their own expeditures.

Although the Diesel truck wars is very interesting to read including real world experiences with US Domestic Market Tow Rigs, this thread is about LandCruisers and Solid Axle 4WD Toyotas.
Would be a great discussion around a campfire up there.

Oddball diesel question.

At altitude do you expect a 1HZ 40 with altitude comp on the IP to have trouble/smoke excessively?

We have cool swag showing up everyday. Shirts are here and we will begin stuffing swag bags this weekend. A little over two weeks out folks. I hope yall are as excited as we are.

Sounds like an injector problem to me. Have you personally had this issue or is this a trolling inquiry?

Its not an issue, I have no issues where I am (sea level/east coast), its an ask as to what in your experience you would expect from a 1HZ at altitudes seen at SAS

I've seen a lot of smoke at altitude from everything honestly. At the altitudes these trails are on reach 12k-13k + feet. Turbos and superchargers do help in this instance. The air is very thin and vehicles tuned for lower altitudes tend to run rich, even those with computers running the mixture.
