Haleakala highway. To my house

Well I won't have to pay a fab shop that's for sure!!

Yes Chad is my friend and I am looking forward to wheeling the hundy in cali. Chad is a super nice guy and was happy to get a hold of him again after a few years. I wish I could bring my crawler instead but plans changed so now I have to beef up the cruiser. Hopefully I can get it geared /arb'd and armored ASAP!!

What about the long arm coil over setup? Seems like might be the best compromise... Saw a thread of a guy building custom arms and tower for his v8 runner and cantilever rear setup... Could work for hundy and less cutting... Could be awesome!

Now that's a setup I'm in for...

So many worms, too small of a can. Sounds fun but I'd hardly consider that less "cutting" than a SAS. I applaud the fired up guy attitude but this stuff has been discussed before by people with the means to pull it off and it just doesn't happen due to the reward being far less than the work involved.

If an 100 SAS didnt ride like an 80 series:(I would be more interested...

I'm afraid this is what you'll end up with. SAS 100 would be cool, but realistically I'd sell the 100 and buy a built 80 if in your shoes.
BTW, it's sad for me to hear that you've got to go 70 in order to keep up with traffic on that highway. (cuz I'm pretty sure it's not the speed limit.)

As 89gashog said. If you like Toyota, then don't 'reinvent the wheel', just grab a 105 instead. It pretty much has the power & comfort of a 100, but the axles of an 80.

I agree but iirc there is a 15yr import law for non domestic cars... I also have thought of buying a wreck front half... But from what research I have done the frame is different so I Would still have to pull engine and do Just about the same amount of work.., but if I just did a custom axle housing it would be way stronger... D60 kingpin ends on a ruffstuff w 9.5 center.

The UN's headquarters is in NYC. And they own the vast majority of 105 this side of ASIAPAC, surely some of them find their way their ? ;-)

One has the owner is on MUD cant remember his name

Something I like to do is read other posts on the forum by certain users. This guy is pretty opinionated across the board. I'll just say this, there's a ton of people on this forum that are smart, know their trucks very well, and have a lot of experience. And they come across light years more humble than you do. Just a thought for you to chew on as you make friends here. And I'll throw this in, if you are so bent on an amazing off-roading rig, you could go with a lot of other options than a Cruiser. Don't try to make a 100 series what it isn't. That's like telling a Prius owner, your car is useless cause it doesn't have any space. You don't buy a Prius to haul plywood sheets. 100 series are amazing off-road and their manners on road are simply cushy and wonderful. The 80 on road manners aren't nearly so.

Just because I tell how I would like to build my own truck, ans say what my experiences have proven to me, doesn't mean anybody has to agree. I enjoy building trucks and driving them hard. With that said anybody who has the same philosophy of use as me would also build it similar. And yes I am aware of other cruisers, I have had them all, and I know it would not make the 'best' crawler...

But it would be awesome and I already have a good crawler, and even though a 100 may have been expensive, they are as cheap as tacomas used and I've already built one of those. I think the whole reason of this board is to post our personal opinions and learn from others opinions as well as share experiences. I highly doubt anyone who builds crawlers would think my ideas are opinionated, rather they would agree that 1 ton custom housing linked under a v8 cruiser would be a fine way to improve off road capability.

I think it's fair to have opinions about my own truck.. Or suv... Maybe I'll change my mind after wheeling it this summer but I really don't think its going to magically exceed my expectations.

I also think that there is a reason the 105 was not offered here but was offered in, say, Australia. Because they knew people would not want to sacrifice off-road ability for mall crawling.

Yes, it can be done...

but why?

Haha that's classic.. But in all seriousness why would Toyota make the 105 if there wasn't an obvious demand for a v8 live axle cruiser?? I am certain there are hundy owners out there who would love a straight axle version 105. I know I'm not the only one... Slee's conversion is sweet, I Would love to wheel with my wife and daughter in leather and a/c call me crazy but my days of bashing around in old trucks with wild dirty hippie girls are over... I fan barely get her to ride in the taco lol.

WELL ITS LATER.....lets get this ball a rolling starting cutting metal...:hmm:
