So I am getting ready to build up my 40 and need to sand blast my D60, 14bolt, engine ect.

My question is where do you guys purchase your sand for media blasting? I have found plastic beads, walnut shells, glass beads, ect, ect, ect but no sand. I want power and cheap lol.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

if you use the quikcrete sand instead of play sand, no filtering is necessary ;)

Not all sand is the same...

Regular sand has a lot of silica in it. Not good for the lungs.

Black Beauty has no silica or very little IIRC and sandblasting sand is low in silica.

I have found that you can reuse sand blasting sand over and over again, where play sand or construction sand is not as long lasting and creates a lot more dust.

I found that you have to size the nozzle correctly for the type of sand

Fantastic thanks guys. I hadv stopped by the local gravel yard and the sales guy shot down the quickrete gravel real quick. He said it was very inconsistant and would clog and damage my blaster.

I'll swing by home depot and check them out. And a local rental place!

tractor supply has it in my "red" neck of the woods

Washed sand will give you a better finish. The sand kernnel will be smoother since it generally comes out of riverbeds or beaches.

Regular sand has very jagged edges and will remove the material quickly but heats up the metal. It also wears you tips out very quickly.

Most places that sell blast cabinets also sell the blast media. Harbor Freight comes to mind as well as Napa.

Three things....

1. wear a mask
2. Try skatmagic...works well for me
3. wear a mask
