Doug,

There's a good possibility that another team my join at the last minute.

secret ingredient

It's time to reveal the secret ingredient.
Chocolate. Dark, white, bitter or milk. The choice is up to the contestants.
The competition will start at 6pm.
May the best team win

C'mon Alvaro...where's the Sand Chef results and pics? We're dying to know all about it!

Bunch of pic slackers down there this year .

The Girls won. Nearly perfect scores. 2nd year in a row.

Fun time. the main dish was challenging. Desserts were easier, but still over the top for cooking on the beach

We got 4th place... just 4 teams...

Yopo dishes:
Roberto Alves cooked some bananas with white cheese (queso fresco) and chocolate bars...
Pepe cooked shreded meat with a Chocolate mole...
Roberto Miranda (me), I used the camp fire to cooked a biscuit dough and then, filled with Nutella...

I'm working on the pics... coming soon...

...and the pictures?:bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2:

some of them...

Yes the Gallivanting Gourmands won.
Melissa will have to elaborate on the specifics of the dishes since she was the mastermind of our team.
But basically we had a skirt steak with a cocoa rub grilled on skewers, a molten chocolate dessert with caramel a la mode & finally a layered dessert of white chocolate mousse, sliced strawberries & vanilla cognac & pound cake.

So, I have to ask -- How is it that the winning team had printed cards for their dishes? Were those hand inscribed? They certainly look printed ahead of time.

Very nice touch. Wish I had enough advance notice to print out dish cards.

Wow that is impressive, demonstrate a lot of commitment and preparation for the event!!!

On the other hand, we are pushing the bar in the wrong direction. Using electrical gadgets must be penalized somehow, so blenders, ovens, pre-printed stuff are not regular camping tools, we have them, but is not regular camping stuff, well, maybe for NorCal guys is standard LOL !!!

I had the blast, it was awesome to share the moment with friends, trade some leftover and enjoy…

Roberto

I agree Roberto.

I spoke to Alvaro, and I think there wasn't enough emphasis on the rules. The teams that were involved in 2006 know what the rules and emphasis were then.

Ultimately, it's about having fun, and challenging ourselves. I think we all came up with some cool dishes, and hopefully the crowd and the judges had a good time!

What's the matter Ross? you don't carry a laser printer with you in the FJ?

to be fair, you were told the night before....Kinko's is open 24 hours...

This years was definately classed up a notch for the ladies...next year, it's got to be served on valve covers, stirred with broken birfields and heated on manifolds.

Your meat dish was one of two bites I got, and I gotta say, it F'in rocked my man! I also got a taste of Roberto's teams banana/chocolate cheese dish....I believe my comment was "bring me 9 more of those!"

I didn't get any of the girls teams dishes though.....conspiracy maybe?

Maybe we do a sand chef breakfast?

There is a fax and copy center in Oceano for the cards.

I must say, everything we made was done with hand whisks, Coleman stoves, and a Coleman BBQ. Nothing fancy. I beleive the reason our dishes came out so well is years of experience cooking for our kids and husbands almost every night and the love of good food.

Thanks Alvaro for putting this on again. We had a blast. Next year I would be interested in being a judge rather than a participant. I want to take it easy and enjoy the fruits of other peoples labor!

Thanks to all of the other teams. It's great to compette against others who also love to cook.

Well, hats off to thinking of making place cards for your dish. Truly impressive!

It was also impressive making your molten cake in 30 minutes. Not quite sure how you pulled off baking cupcakes that quickly.

That's the beauty of "molten" type cakes; they are uncooked in the middle. Once I had the batter mixed and poured into the tins they only needed to be heated for 9 minutes. I have this aluminum box that sits on the Coleman stove and has a temperature reading on the lid. The tricky part was keeping it around 400 degrees with the wind.

Make no mistake, your team won hands down. Very impressive for beach cooking

If we have a male judgment group next year, a HOT waitress will count as “presentation” for our dishes? I’m thinking about it… I saw in my mind some faces moving up and down already…

If the pre-printed instruction will help the judges, and give us some extra points… that is the road that must teams will follow…
