I’m looking for 72-74 brake master cylinder that has either been rebuilt or is in good enough condition to rebuild.

Also looking for a well working brake booster for the same years.

Thanks.

Mike

So you have drums brakes front and rear ?
Yes. I put a 75 master cylinder on it, all new brake cylinders , pads and lines. It was good for about 8 months but then the front brakes locked up. I can bleed the front and it’ll be fine for a bit then they lock up. I’ve done research about it but haven’t found much on what might be causing the problem. I don’t know what the difference is between the 72-74 vs 75. From what I understand front disc didn’t come till ‘76.

I'm sure you'll find what you need with Kurt, but I do have my original '72 booster and master cylinder in Boise, ID that I could get rid of. Unknown overall condition but worked when installed on my 40.

I have yet to contact Kurt. What’s your asking price for both?

I see you tried using the '75 Master. I wondered if that would work (I have a 74), but looking at the schematics, the internals are different, even though both are for drum/drum brakes.

They may be valved differently.

It’s interesting. Exterior they look identical so I thought, it should work. Now I’m wondering if the throw of the rod is a different length and that’s possibly what locking up the front. It’s just odd that it worked fine for a while then became a problem.

They look similar, but side by side there's obvious differences. However, they look close enough that I was considering trying it too.

Have you re checked both pushrod lengths ? The locknut is known to come loose on the break pedal one and the one inside the break booster.
I will be doing this. The only problem is the cruiser is my sister’s in Montana and I’m in Salt Lake City. Getting prepped in case I need to swap to the correct year master cylinder when I go up in October to work on it. Appreciate the advice.
