We use a Payroll service and get paid correctly and on time each and every PP. I have a proposal in to the Sr Mgt team to completely out-source or eliminate our entire accounting department. Turn-about is fair play since they are usually the ones recommending the out-sourcing of IT.

It would seem that you wouldn't need washers or fear of failure if you used the clevis properly. Tree saver strap on the pin and the hook, snatch or other devise on the curve?!!!

yes, for that, but not for a tow loop for example where you may not be able to slide the ends through the hole

Holy mudhole batman! What kind of shackle are you using that is too large to fit through the loops of a snatch strap? Or maybe the question should be; what kind of strap are you using that has such a small loop?

tow loop as in metal as on the 80 for example...
Erick .... why not get a chunk of 1" or 1 1/2" pipe and cut 2 spacers out of it that slid over the shackle that way you don't have 10 washers to deal with, i think that it would go a lot faster. Or you could tack weld the washers together.
I'm thinking we need a "tow loop centering device" that is designed for a D-ring shackle.
Something that is stainless steel so that it lasts forever.
Something spring loaded or with cams or some type of mechanical centering device.
It should have a green LED to let the user know when the loop is perfectly centered; and a red/orange LED to let the user know when it is not centered.
It needs to be designed so that it fits various shackle sizes.
Ideas?

You know, my eyes have been opened. The risk of uncentered, offf axis shackle towing loads is so great, that I'm going back to those tow ropes with hooks. 
Pep Boys has them cheap right now.

Uhh... That "Tow Loop" on the '80s is not an acceptable recovery point. I know I've pointed that out here before and I know that others have posted up pictures of failed loops.
It's a tie down point. Big difference.
Bad idea to be hooking a snatch strap to that. Stop worrying about your shackle alignment and worry about where you're attaching it. That loop will fail so long before your shackle will that it isn't even worth discussing. If that loop will stand up to the recovery, NOTHING else will be anywhere near critical limits.
